I enjoyed this book. It was great to get more of a look at Henry's history and his life. it definitely reads like a greatest hits of events and people from the Civil War through the 60s. I liked the over arching threat of Grandeur and how that turned out though I would have liked more expansion on that.

All around it was great gore, interesting historical figures and wonderful writing. I will say it could have done with more female characters. There really is only one of note in the whole book. Other than that, enjoyable!

In this sequel to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the story follows Henry's life and I am here for it. I arrived to America at Roanoke where he was shortly turned into a vampire. The beginning of his vampire life is so interesting, and a little strange (don't even get me started on the weird/gross ward turned wife dynamic). His life plays out like something out of Forrest Gump, where he is present for all important historical events. I loved it as a history buff, but it does make the story less realistic. I honestly liked all the history more than the villain arc of Virginia, and there were some truly gruesome gore moments. Overall I didn't like it as much as the first book, but I love Henry and how strong he is, and all he's been through, so it doesn't score that much lower.

This is not what you typically expect in a vampire novel.

If you want the memoirs of a sarcastic, 400-year-old vampire who loves talking to people and discussing literature who also gets occasionally grumpy and morbid, then this is a book you'll want to check out.

Also, it's gory, but only in the fighting scenes. A lot of the prose is Henry Sturges remembering his past or reviewing his interpretations of well-known individuals, like Nikola Tesla (a great friend) and FDR. There is a bit of a twist halfway through, but it won't throw you off the storyline.

Yes, there is a storyline. No, it's not as intense as [b:Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter|7108001|Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter (Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, #1)|Seth Grahame-Smith|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1291165397l/7108001._SY75_.jpg|6596168], but each chapter contributes to understanding Henry and his past as a whole.

If you've made it this far, congratulations! I don't know why I love Henry so much, but I hope you do as well.

Ugh, spineless crap. Enough with the EMO vampires that only dwink blood of baddies or worse - animals. What's the fucking point?

I did not read Grahame-Smith's first book, however I did see the movie that was made from it which I found to be a bit ridiculous but amusing nonetheless. This book, although it is a sequel, is able to stand on its own and I didn't feel lost when reading it. As the book even mentions this is very reminiscent of Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire, since it written as if someone is actually interviewing Henry Sturges.

From Roanoke to the JFK assassination this book takes you on a tour through American history which is fairly historically accurate, with the exception of the vampire thrown in here or there. For those of us who are not history buff's this was an interesting way to be introduced to some historical figures that we may not have known about but after reading about them here I found myself doing google searches on them to find out more about them and to see what was accurate and what was embellished.

I really loved the way this book is written. With pieces of it pulled out like it was being quoted or taken from a diary and other parts written as a narrative you get drawn into the story. I found myself whipping through this very interesting novel and was almost upset to find myself at its end. However, being left wanting more helps me to know how much I felt invested in the characters.

Things that I felt were missing weren't very important but things that stuck with me, such as, what happened to so many of the vampires? Why are there so few left? I doubt that Henry was able to wipe out that many in his travels. I understand that if you were in the Union you were sworn not to make any new vampires, but what about those who weren't part of that group? Surely they were making new vampires? So that part confused me a bit. Maybe I will get answers in a future book.

I loved this book. It featured historical characters working together like a steampunk-style superhero team. The way the author portrays vampires as players or sometimes catalysts for many significant events in history reads in such a natural way that is seems utterly plausible. Extremely fun read.

Seth Grahame-Smith has an amazing ability to take pre-existing stories and historical events and craft them into something new, unique, and exciting.

Grahame-Smith takes us through hundreds of years of American history - the way that vampire Henry Sturges lived it. And the best part is is that it's weirdly historically accurate - for being interwoven with vampire lore at every turn.

I loved this book. I know it's early in the year but I already know this is going to be one of my favorites of 2015. I thought this book was fantastic and can't recommend it highly enough. If you liked Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter don't hesitate to pick this up.

Great book for those who like history and the supernatural!! You get the best of both worlds.

I love the idea of this book. It would have made a killer series of nice meaty books, each volume based on one major historic event at a time. Instead, everything felt rushed. Still, a fun read.

I didn't think it would be possible but I think I like this more than Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. But I guess that's no surprise when this book revolved around the character I found most interesting from the first.

This book is just as well researched as the first, interweaving incredible historical detail with the supernatural. I loved the cameos of famous historical figures, all of which seemed totally in line with what I've heard about them. This book took me to some of my favorite historical events, such as the founding of Jamestown and Rasputin's manipulation of the Romanov royal family.

I loved this from start to finish! There were awesome twists and cheeky moments throughout. This was well worth the wait. Such a worthy followup to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
