I first tried listening to this on the new version of audio "playaways" but I just could not pay attention well enough, so I asked for it in book form for my birthday. I adored Henry's character in the first book and this continuation, his story, laid out every reason I loved him. I loved the flow of the story and all the connections in history. It blew my mind that so many of these people mentioned lived at the same time or within years of each other, I often associate most with different time periods. I was worried in the beginning because things didn't line up with the ending of the first book but then, it all came together and it was awesome. My only complaint was how long the chapters were. I'm one of those people that likes to finish a chapter but due to the length of these, I couldn't easily do that when I was busy.

I love love this series. this particular one was essentially crime fighting social justice vampires and I am here for every bit of that. the ending was difficult though. for multiple reasons.

like Forrest Gump, but with more vampires

My review from 2016:

Another fun read by Mr. Grahame-Smith. I will say that Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was marginally better, but perhaps that's because I didn't understand all of the references in this follow-up work.  Having to look up certain people/places in order to better understand the story took a little bit away from the reading experience, but I suppose that's my own fault for not paying attention in history class. Still, a good and well-written story and another wonderful title in the historical fiction genre.

Full review to come!

A fun piece of historical fiction hitting the highlights of American and Western history since the 1600s.

This was like the Forest Gump of vampire stories... and I loved it. I always really enjoy a story that uses real life events and twists them to align with the fantastical.
The Last American Vampire is Henry's story starting after Abe's assassination
Spoilerand resurrection at Henry's hands!
. The story goes through out Henry's life as he plays an integral, although secret, part in many of the most important events of the last few centuries and as he meets with many other famous contemporaries such as
SpoilerBram Stoker, Jack the Ripper, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Mark Twain, Nikola Tesla, Rasputin, Teddy Rosevelt, FDR, JFK, Howard Hughes, and of course... an assassination plot to kill Hitler.

Seth Grahame-Smith brought back his signature tongue in cheek humor in this sequel to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. So fun, so gory. Very entertaining read. I recommend. :)

So good but very graphic
adventurous dark funny lighthearted mysterious fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix

A sequel to the amazing Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and this one certainly lived up to its predecessor! Being the history buff that I am and knowing the liberties writers take since I share the craft, this book was genius. History is plagued with so many mysteries. No one truly know what happened in all of the events recorded in history books so Seth Graham-Smith took that, infected it with the vampire disease and answered all of those questions we had. How did Rasputin work his way into the Romanov's household and help the long awaited son of Nicholas II? He was a vampire, duh! Where did Bram Stoker get his idea for Dracula? From vampires, duh! What happened at Roanoke? A vampire, duh. All the world's mysteries can be explained in gruesome (sometimes too gruesome) detail. You can smell the death, feel an eye ball get ripped out of a socket, hear the crunch of bones as someone is slammed dead against a tree. The descriptions are superb and the tale is weaved in a tragic but simply brilliant way. I cannot wait for what has to be the third installment. The door was left open and it feels exciting!
