I don't think I am the target audience for this. It is a young adult book and they can go either way for me as a reader. This unfortunately is too young for me, and the 17 year old protagonist seducing men to lure them to their deaths is a tad icky. Excellent concept for a book though, and I love the fact that she can taste emotions, that's a really cool idea.

It would be so easy for a writer to take the concept of a character who has been maligned for aeons and have them be one note: either awful or self-hating/trying to prove they are nothing like their reputation. Saoirse Sorkova is a siren. And while I won’t spoil the plot here, I actually love that the author doesn’t shy away from who the character is and what she does. She does have choices to make and like a lot of us, especially when young, she has to lean into owning her agency. Into knowing how to wield her power. And trying to control our desires, instincts is something that everyone deals with. I really like Saoirse and her family. And I’m holding onto my thoughts about Hayes because he is in quite the difficult situation. Fingers crossed.

This was a great first book in a duology. I loved all the world building and the history of the kingdom. The notion of the barrier and whether it was to keep beings out or in.

our MCs were likable, and I felt well developed. They appeared as one thing on the surface, and then we got to know the deeper causes. The same goes for side characters.

I liked that while this story was wrapped up, the next step cones with book two, and I am eager to see how all that is going to go. IYKYK.

I couldnt get into the groove of the writing unfortunately

Who would like it: fans of sirens and angry MCs

Book Review: I unfortunately DNFed this book. I don't really enjoy Siren stories, I don't know why but I have this beautiful copy I got from Fairyloot so I had to give it a try.

There was a lot I liked about this especially the world building but I didn't like the main character's anger levels over everything, her being a Siren, then the first interaction with the love interest... I'm just not the audience. If you dig Sirens and grumpy girls I really do think you should try this.

It looms like the author has a few upcoming titles not in this series and l'd love to check them out.
