I requested an ARC of this book from NetGalley because I enjoyed the author’s YA mystery novels. I struggle with this from the beginning because the premise is just so far fetched. As someone who works closely with high school seniors, the event that set off this entire story would never happen. Add to that the other events that take place are just more and more unlikely. That the main character is the salutatorian but dropped the ball in such a way, is both unrealistic and made her hard to empathize with. The story or one last hurrah for high school seniors was interesting, but I was just too far gone to really care.

10 Truths and a Dare is an entertaining, fluffy YA novel about family, repairing mistakes, and finding oneself outside of their familial identity (especially in a large family). Just like its companion title [b:10 Blind Dates|43885673|10 Blind Dates|Ashley Elston|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1553102132l/43885673._SY75_.jpg|58305774], this book delivers on the fun and humor, but don’t expect any heavy topics or serious issues to be explored. If you love cozy YA stories with a hint of high school antics and a dash of humor.

Read my review on my blog.

Thanks to the publisher for an audio ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

(free review copy) I absolutely adored Elston’s YA novel “10 Blind Dates” so I was very happy to know we would get to return to the massive and boisterous Messina family in this follow-up story. While Blind Dates was a holiday story, this one is set around HS graduation and contains just as many family shenanigans. I didn’t love it quite as much as Blind Dates, but I think that may have more to do with the fact that I’m a mom of teens and a HS teacher and I couldn’t shut down my adult feelings about Olivia’s choices as I read and reflected. However, this is a sweet and peppy HS story that was exactly what I needed right now. I hope we get to see more of this family!

** 3.5 Stars **

This was such a fun and quick read. It's probably not completely necessary to read 10 Blind Dates first, but I was glad I had that background of Olivia's friend group (which is very tightly-knit) and family (which is huge and always in each other's business).

The driving force of this book is the fact that Olivia's friend group helps cover for her while her parents are out of town. Olivia has an app on her phone that tracks her location so her parents can keep tabs on her while they're away. It was fun to see Olivia's friends react and respond to the messages Olivia would receive while they were on "phone duty." I honestly wish I had a friend group that I could trust to take my phone for an entire week and text people back as if they're me. But on the other hand, I'm glad I don't have a parent that would track my every move on an app on the phone and text me every 10 minutes from across the country about what I should be wearing and doing.

This was fun for a quick and cute YA contemporary. Not quite to the parr of 10 Blind Dates, but I'm not mad that I read it.
