British police officer Jack Wardsley, on a forced leave of absence, is ordered to take a vacation. On his second day at sea on a Mediterranean cruise, he notices a disproportionate number of his fellow passengers seem to be suffering from colds. By dinnertime, the virus has turned them violent, and they tear Jack and the rest of the guests apart. Jack wakes up without a scratch and a strange case of deja vu, and starts reliving the day of the outbreak over and over again.

A zombie outbreak on a cruise ship, mixed with Groundhog Day - what a cool hybrid idea. It has its moments, mostly when describing the zombie carnage. Unfortunately, the repetition of the gimmick wore thin pretty quickly for me, and I found the protagonist extremely dull. It's a short read, so maybe worth checking out if you really like zombie stories. It's actually the first of a trilogy, but I don't think I'll check out the rest.

I was enjoying this book until a certain part gave me the ick. I'm not continuing with this series.

I love apocalyptic horror of all kinds. Life ending natural disaster? Check. End of the world alien attack? Check. Killer virus gets out and wipes out almost everyone except for the hero? ABSOLUTELY. That’s actually my favorite one. I’m not sure what that says about me as a person, but we’re not here to talk about me 😅 This book was short; 182 pages in total so I devoured it easily. You follow Jack, a policeman who has been sent on a cruise by his boss because he had a nervous breakdown after his partner was killed. As his time on the ship goes on, he notices there’s quite a few sick people on board. Later that night, hell literally breaks loose as people turn into what is essentially rage filled zombies who attack and kill everyone they find. Jack is killed, but wakes up the next day to find that the day keeps repeating. I won’t spoil the ending or anything else about this, but the ENDING??? I love it so much but also fucking hate it. How did I end up being lucky enough to read two 5 star books back to back?

This was yet another buddy read with @momsterreadsandreviews for #zombieawarenessmonth and it was a fun read, but not as strong as The Girl With All the Gifts.

I have to say, I was super excited to start this book. I am already terrified of ships, boats, the ocean all that jazz, and I love illnesses wreaking havoc in an enclosed space, make that an illness that turns people into zombies and I couldn't wait to dive into this one.

The first few pages were everything I was looking for. Gore, mystery, what the fuck is going on vibes but after a while, it was more about the mystery and how to stop it all and finding a solution to the problem and less action with the zombies and fighting the zombies. Way more mystery than horror in my opinion.

However, I did like the story. It didn't go where I thought it would be going and it had an interesting story, running along with the zombie outbreak, but I was just looking for some more... Fear inducing stuff? Like, more terror, more fear, more desperation...

Oh well, it still was a fun read with zombies in it for Zombie month!

ONTO THE NEXT ONE, KIKI! RAVAGE IT IS!!!

Reading the blurb you get a feel that this story is going to have a supernatural bent to it. How the author explains that is a little, ok a lot far fetched, but it was still entertaining enough that I finished the first book and went right onto the second [b:Ravage|25915399|Ravage|Iain Rob Wright|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1436979789s/25915399.jpg|25488183].

Officer Jack Wardsley is on an enforced vacation after the death of his partner. What he finds aboard the Spirit of Kirkpatrick is anything but relaxing. He is thrust into a nightmare where he is the only one aware that the day keeps resetting. That is until one day someone does not show up at their designated place in the reset day. The waitress that has taken his drink every day for weeks does not show up and Jack realizes that she may know something (turns out she does).

I am not going to spoil that little bit of the plot but I will say in Jack’s search for answers he spirals down an even darker path. As if dealing with “eye bleeders” day after day, with no escape, was not enough. The one person he thought he could trust may not be who or what she seems.

The writing style reminded me a bit of Jonathan Maberry’s [b:Patient Zero|3993839|Patient Zero (Joe Ledger, #1)|Jonathan Maberry|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1439953244s/3993839.jpg|4039913]. The fact that all these threads eventually tie together.

**SPOILER** The ending is a cliffhanger hence the need to jump right into the next book.
