I enjoyed reading this book. It's a cute story with a really intriguing premise, and I love stories that have are part romance but also part interesting family drama. And family drama doesn't get more interesting than finding out you have a secret sister! This book is told from Abby's point of view, and overall I found her an interesting and relatable character. She's working through a lot of self-doubt and anxiety throughout the book, which is always a mood, but she's also sassy and creative and sometimes into pulling reckless but fun stunts. It puts her at some interesting odds with her newfound sister, Savvy, as the two are complete opposites in personality. Overall I love how genuine the characters in this story feel. Conversations and feel like the real people conversations and banter that we all have with our closest friends, and there is a fun energy about the book. It's got a bit of a Parent Trap vibe to it, which I enjoyed. There are very many pranks. Overall it's a fun time, and I enjoy Emma Lord's writing style.
At times I wished some things would have felt a little more dramatic than they ended up being. A lot of the stuff with romance in the book felt a little too convenient and didn't have enough drama in it to make me as excited about those moments, though there were also sweet moments that were enjoyable to read. As well, there was a lot of buildup around these family secrets and why Abby never knew she had a sister, but the reveal didn't end up feeling as big as I expected it to. Was it a believable situation? Yes. Did it feel like the families involved had made it a little overblown and were behaving out of proportion to the situation, a bit yes. It was still an enjoyable read, but I think I wanted a little more drama than I felt like I got.
That being said, I did like watching Abby and Savvy's relationship grow. It's interesting to think about how you would react if you discovered a secret sibling. Would you want to try and be friends? Would you feel hurt and betrayed? Would this feel like a cool new adventure? It's cool to see how one sister would handle this crazy situation, and if nothing else, it's a a cute, comedic and heartwarming read that will bring a little summer into your winter days. 3.75/5

Very sweet story. I can picture this easily as a Netflix film. It’s a YA novel so I was hoping I could recommend it to younger students. It has swearing in it. It’s not a big deal. It’s realistic - that’s how teenagers talk. Just a heads up!

Thank you NetGalley and Wednesday Books for the ARC of You Have a Match by Emma Lord.
I always wanted to go to summer camp when I was a kid, so when I was offered a YA coming of age novel about teens at summer camp, I knew I was all in!
You Have a Match is about Abby and Savvy, two girls who discover they are sisters from a 23&Me type DNA test. The bizarre thing is, they actually have a common friend, who has attended the same camp as Savvy over the years (and who has grown up with Abby). When Savvy convinces Abby to attend the camp, things get interesting. The two girls start working through their relationship and getting to know each other as sisters - definitely with some big ups and downs.
This was a fun read about relationships and growing up as well as secrets and grief. It's the perfect YA book - touching on all things that make a summer camp book great! Get ready for this book to hit the shelves on January 12th, 2021.

I can't ever get over this book! Savvy and Abby are THE best. This book just soothes me, probably a comfort book considering all those rereads. I wouldn't have minded if there were no romance because that's how much I love these sisters and way their bond grows. The narrator's voice is just as calming, and I love her narration. I wouldn't really hate a bit of Savvy's POV. (Sorry if I got the spelling wrong because of the audiobook.)
When her best friend (and secrete crush) Leo signs up for a DNA service, Abby agrees to sign up too. Leo doesn't find a match, but Abby finds out she has a mysterious older sister, Savvy. Abby and Savvy agree to meet up and try to learn what happened that Savvy was given up for adoption. Abby and Savvy couldn't be more different- Abby loves photography but hates sharing while Savvy is an Instagram influencer. Abby agrees to go to the same summer camp where Savvy (and Leo) both go so they can get to know each other more.
This was a pretty good listen. It was light and fluff. I wish that it would have explore Leo's emotions about learning Savvy was really Abby's sister a little more. After all, he was adopted by white parents while he is Filipino. It played out like a typical teen romance, with most of it being predictable, but it's sometimes good to have an easy read.

Well this was a pleasantly diverting story about unexpected family.
I loved Abby's journey to find her own voice with her friends and family. There are so many times we seem to get 'stuck' in a certain role or persona with our families and long term friends, and breaking out or trying something new becomes too daunting. In this case, it took Abby finding someone and learning her parents own secrets for her own to come out, allowing her to finally say what and who she wants.
Great read. Thoroughly enjoyed as the "Book about Family" prompt for 2023 Popsugar Reading challenge.
