The beginning started off a bit slow almost losing my interest but once the story line started picking up I couldn't put it down. Looking through the eyes of an alien referred to as a soul,Wanda, while she battles Melanie, a human host who still inhabits her own body and refuses to be silenced by the opposing force also inhabiting her body. I loved how it reflects present social status and cliques and how Wanda refused to be like everyone else. How she created her own ideas and stood up against her superiors, and all for the love a man she didn't even truly know yet.
The adventures the two girls share on their search is heartwarming and hilarious between their banters back and forth which create a sort of, strained at first but nonetheless, friendship.
The relationships were deliouciously crafted going from both Meelanie and Wanda loving Jared to Wanda being conflicted by interest in Jared and Ian, the brother Kyle, a man who has lost the love of his life to the souls and vows revenge.
Meyers outdid herself in The Host, far better than the Twilight series.

I decided to start the year with a book I had not read in a long time and I fell back in love with Wanderer once again. Her character arc is one of self-discovery through the flood of human emotions and the complexity of human dynamics. The friendship and understanding that settles between the two women, the Soul and the Human, sharing the same mind space and body is heartwarming and moving.
"Just one quick revolution of a blue green planet around an unexceptional yellow star. The shortest life of any I'd ever lived.
The shortest, the most important, the most heartbreaking of lives. The life that would forever define me. The life that had finally tied me to one star, to one planet, to one small family of strangers.
A little more time... would that be so wrong?"
But I admit that the age-gap trope between Melanie and Jared bothered me more now that I’m an adult. And his hatred towards Wanda, even though it’s still understandable to some degree, gets quickly repetitive, boring and basic stubbornness.
Ian and Wanda still live rent free in my heart, the enemies to friends to lovers trope is well written and I loved to see it grow once again ! And having an attraction starting with something deeper than physical appreciation is so refreshing !
“It’s not the face, but the expressions on it. It’s not the voice, but what you say. It’s not how you look in that body, but the things you do with it. You are beautiful. I’ve never known anyone like you.”
My Kindle tells me I am 44% through this book. I don't want to jinx anything, but I LOVE this book. It feels like a trilogy wrapped in one. People have mixed feelings about the Twilight series, I know. I, for one, loved them, but more for the story than the writing (although the writing got progressively better, as did the story...and no, you cannot watch the movies to make your decision on this issue). This book is well-written and simply amazing. Wow! That's what I've been thinking since I pushed the button that brought me to the first page. The back story is really cool, and the characters are awesome, and the plot...geesh, complicated(in a good way)and suspenseful. It's technically sci-fi, but in a mild way. Not that I have anything against sci-fi, but mentioning it does cause a lot of people to say "ah, heck no!" There are aliens and other worlds and stuff and humans fighting for their lives, yada yada, but this is about humanity and relationships. Anyway, if you want to know how much I love this book, consider this...I have a six-month old kid, and I stayed up until 1 a.m. last night reading. I knew I would pay for it today, but I didn't care.

It’s have an interesting concept and story but the pacing is a bit slow.
Well, this is not the story I remember reading when I was a teenager. Not at all.
There are a lot of elements that I remember and a lot of elements that I don’t, and I think I’m more surprised by the elements that I don’t remember. If that makes any sort of sense.
The story also moves a lot slower that I was remembering, there are a lot of things that happen in this story but somehow it doesn’t make the pace of the book speed up any.
Also, the whole love triangle thing gets a bit weird and convoluted towards the end, and the relationship between Wanda and Ian seems very rushed with no real build up to it. Also, there were moments where I wanted to reach into the pages and slap Melanie. I definitely do not remember her being as whiny as she was.
Definitely not a book I will be revisiting again, but one that I’m oddly glad I have read again.

I was leery after reading the Twilight Saga but she really surprised me with this book. Was slow to start but then I couldn't put it down and by the end I was crying as much as the characters.
