I don't give out the 5 stars very often, and I'm still a little hesitant to give it the big 5. It doesn't earn it for the writing, which is good but not transformative, but I did something different with this book, which was read it, listen to it at the same time, and actually use the website to meditate. It's been just about two months, and Andy's approach to meditation has literally changed my mind, so that's worth five stars.

His ten minutes of meditation a day approach is brilliant, because the time commitment is so small, and the results are so great. I found that I wanted to keep going, so I moved up to fifteen minutes, and then twenty, and now I'm wrapping up a 30-day cycle to improve sleep, and I can say definitively that I am sleeping better than I have in the past 25 years.

This book is filled with personal stories describing how Andy Puddicombe became a Buddhist monk for ten years, then transitioned into teaching and running a clinic, plus a few simple exercises to try while you're reading, and some solid scientific research to support the whole show.

Worth checking out if you've been curious about meditation and not sure how to get started.

A lot of books are out there in mindfulness but this one is one I could relate to. Written with humour and from an honest perspective

Recommended, rather unexpectedly, in a French language learning podcast, "I'm Polyglot." I'd been contemplating trying meditation for a while and this was my last step before actually diving in (2 weeks in so far!).

Written by the founder of Headspace, I love how this book doesn't just explain how to meditate but actually gives some (secular) context and information on the "approaches" as well as how to integrate the practice into your life. The stories and anecdotes were just enough to provide visualizations without going overboard.

Imagine what it would be like to have someone give you their full and undivided attention. Imagine what it would be like to return the favor.

Very straight forward, down to earth, "secular" and practical approach to mindfulness. I was afraid that the book was going to be a mean to sell Puddicombe's Headspace program, but it isn't.

The book is didactic and presents an easy approach to the subject. The journey of Andy Puddicombe is quite interesting, and having been a regular guy from UK (i.e., a westerner) who went from a Sports Science student to a monk, and then became teacher and speaker, with all sorts of experiences in between all around the world, gives him a very special perspective.

I can't judge the methodology, I don't know if it works, I don't know if 10 minutes a day can make a difference, but sure enough if you're curious about the subject from a practical point of view, without the heaviness of a religious or philosophical framework, the book is worth reading, and seems to be a good starting point.
