Not sure if this book wasn't as good as the previous ones, or if IAD books are just losing their shine for me. The characters were good, the plotline was fun, but the writing was kind of lacking for me.

I'd been looking forward to this book for a long time, ever since we were introduced to Lanthe back in Sabine and Rydstrom's book and then when she's last seen being dragged off by Thronos in Carrow's book when they're all escaping from Torture Island.

This book is peak "Nix ex machina" plus lots of plot threads from previous books in the series plus "could you two please just have a damn conversation and stop being awful at each other". I did really love how the environments Cole created for Lanthe and Thronos to jump through were almost all new places within the world of IAD and that was really interesting. Also interesting was the whole Vrenkener insistence on a history that is clearly scrubbed up to erase their past.

(Jesus, I've shotgunned seven books in this series in as many days. I haven't done this with a series in years. Whew. Still got a couple to go.)

Somewhere between a 3.5-4.

Kresley Coles writing is great and only progresses with each book. This series is seriously extensive, so sometimes I need a refresher on certain characters and their relations to one another, but it’s still captivating through every chapter.

If you like the hate to love trope... this one is written well and definitely un-problematic.

Love this couple and all their adventures. The end is so twisty and had me scared for a minute but I got my HEA.

What the wacko was that!

Honestly, I read the first in this series and enjoyed it but knew that it would be chock full of Alpha assholery like so many other fantasy novels. So, So Many. But then I read a review of this one that characterized this hero as something like an Omega - a mix of Alpha and Beta. Along with the Childhood Friends to Fated Mates turned Enemies trope, I was curious.

GOOD (for me):
Steamy scenes were

I’ve been looking forward to Lanthe and Thronos’ book ever since I realized he was captured by the order too, but I think all my excitement and high hopes came back to bite me here.

This was a good story - I’m a sucker for a “stranded together” trope, so I was excited about this! I don’t know if my issue was the lack of overarching villain…or the traipsing from realm to realm…or if Thronos and Lanthe just didn’t have the chemistry I expected. But something fell flat.

Spice: 2.5/5

Ahhhhh finally the long-awaited story of Lanthe and Thronos <3 A huge past between them, a lot of misunderstandings, hatred, horrors ... But I loved them so much <3 I loved having their two points of view (their doubts, their hopes ...) but also to see all their secrets unfold before our eyes (although I would have preferred to have a big confrontation between Thronos and his brother ><)
(On the other hand, Morgana, WHAT B*TCH !! As much as I had adored her in the book with one of the Dacians, there ... Personally, I would have destroyed her ><)
In short, a book once again that made me live in the Lore as if I was there <3

PS: I want so much to learn more about the Møriør ><
PS2: Too cute the twins of Holly and Cadeon ><
