I have never rated a Meg Cabot book this low. Her books are like comfort food to me. But this was...something. There wasn’t really much that pulled me into this story, and I found it very to care about the romance, the hurricane, or the pet rescue angle. There was a lot of subplots that never really got fleshed out and then they were all kind of thrown into the last few chapters for the resolution.

My initial reaction, 'MEG CABOT HAS A NEW BOOK?????'
Confession: I have read all her YA books multiple times and own them all in paper copies. I am a big fan.
Thanks to the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this quite a bit but did feel it was a little shallow. Things happened pretty quickly and there wasn't as much funny lines or engaging banter or charming characters as there are in some of her other series. I would still totally read the next one if there are going to be more in this series.

“Don’t, I wanted to cry. Please don’t leave me alone with your hot shirtless nephew.”
Ah, I love a good Meg Cabot. No Judgments reminded me why she’s one of my favorite authors. I love her writing, her wit, her characters so so much. I haven’t read as many of her adults books but if this one is any indication of her adult stories, I need to. It follows Sabrina, or Bree, who moves to Little Bridge to escape her past life, including an ex-boyfriend who said she “overreacted” when his friend sexually assaulted her. She is also grappling with the death of her dad, and she was really close to him, and the fact that her radio-famous, overbearing mom birthed her through an egg donor. Just, overall, a lot of things going on. The story starts with a huge tropical storm brewing and on its way, and Bree decides she’s not going to evacuate, despite warnings from everyone else that she should. We meet a cast of characters, mostly locals from the island, which includes Drew Hartwell, a good looking nephew of well known couple on the island. When Bree’s is invited to stay with them she gets caught up in spending more time with Drew, and even though she says she doesn’t want to it’s clear they’re both drawn to each other. I was surprised at how quickly the storm part of the book actually was. It was only overnight, and then the rest of the book was the aftermath of Drew and Bree having to go around and take care of pets people left behind after the bridge connecting the island to the mainland is destroyed in the storm. I thought they would get caught in a days-long storm in Drew’s house or something, haha. But that just goes to show how little I know about these kinds of storms. I’ve never been in one, but the descriptions of it seemed to authentic and put you right there in the moment. It made me wonder how many Meg Cabot has been through. I loved the setting of this book. The island was like a chat yet in itself and o loved that aspect. Bree had the typical snark and defensiveness that I’ve noticed come with a lot of Meg Cabot’s characters, but it makes them so fun to read on the page. I loved Socks the dog and Gary the cat. I laughed at how Drew’s dogs are all named Bob. Overall, I just had a great time with this book it was so refreshing and can’t wait to read more of the books she wrote that take place on the island!

A new cute little romance series from Meg Cabot! I loved this book even though it was a little unrealistic and there were a few editing errors
