4.5 WTF, couldn't-stop-reading, effed up stars!
I'll keep this review short and post a more detailed one when the book is live.
Tears of Tess. Pepper Winters. Dark romance. What more could you want?
Maybe this book isn't as dark as I assumed it would be. Did that bother me?
Not one freaking bit.
I started this book mere hours ago and its now 3:17am in Aus and I had to write this review NOW.
This is a great debut novel for Pepper Winters. Can't wait to share more at a later date (15 days!).
Pepper has a way with words. Sentences written so beautifully, I read some over and over just to let the words wash over me. The story flows. I literally couldn't put it down.
Truly wonderful - in a effed up, masochistic, sadistic way.
Loved this book. I read the sh*t out of it Pepper!!!!

I just can't do it ...
To all those who love this book ... Please don't judge. But I really can't stand the way Tess thinks. And honestly, the plot at this point seems so far fetched. I don't think I could stand another 4 hours.
Thanks to the brave souls who've gone before me & filled me in on the ridiculousness that I'm giving up on ;)

Number 58
Pepper Winters. I choose her books over and over knowing the stories are dark, haunting, twisted and leave me seeking out cute puppies & kittens when I'm done. Tears of Tess isn't any different. IG pics will calm my mind and blissful sleep takes over. Every warning that comes with Pepper Winters books must be heeded. This book is filled with plenty of carnage that could scramble minds. For those of us that enjoy reading the twisted, sexual, darkness, we also know Pepper is a master of bringing lightness and somehow repairing the broken characters she initially decimated.
Easily a 5 star book and worthy of great reviews. My headline will make sense, if this book is something you choose to venture into.

This book was great to listen to. You could tell that they were each others others half before they could. You could feel her struggle mentally and emotionally. The ending was kinda "hmm" but it all worked out in the end to be great!
The story moves at a grueling, slow pace. I finished 27% of the book before calling it quits.
The only exciting part in the book was when she finally got her lick on the guard that’s been beating her ass.

Book 1 of a series. A dark read as it deals with captivity and human trafficking. Lots of inner dialogue, but it worked as you needed to understand where her head was at.
Oh my goodness! I don't know what I was expecting from this book but damn it was a billion times better, so much so that when I finally got chance to sit and read I could not put it down. So bloody good if I could give it more stars I would
Ok, so while a few things were a little iffy to me, and a lot of the Australian stuff was either Americanised or wrong (flip flops/chilly bin etc) I still really liked the book. The most ‘iffy’ thing to me was actually a main part of the book, he’s so into her because she isn’t broken, and honestly I just kept saying to myself, well duh, they had her for like a week? All his other girls seem to be people who have been sold to a master before, not someone who is fresh? Maybe it was just that he didn’t know she was newly stolen? I dunno. She also needed major therapy for her attachment issues. Oof. Her & Brax were awful to read in the beginning. Also, she was so ashamed of her desires & it annoyed the hell out of me. In those moments she claims at one point she only wanted light bondage. She said she wanted him to be a little less gentle and tie her up with her panties. She pulls out a vibrator and Brax said THAT was the moment he knew they weren’t compatible. Not say, the bondage she’d referenced 3 times, or that he hated PDA and she kept forcing herself on him (that annoyed me, she was awful with his boundaries all because of her own insecurities)
There is non-con and dub-con in this book. Q saying he ‘didn’t rape her’ in the first pool table scene made me very uncomfortable. He may not have put his dick in her, but he definitely sexually assaulted her & honestly it came across like he thought only the things his father did to girls was awful, because they didn’t want it. What he did was wrong & to not think it was but that the whipping etc is, was genuinely gross to read. Not so much the acts, but his mindset on it. He thinks because those girls didn’t enjoy it, that’s what makes it rape, but because Tess did (even if she struggled, fought and cried for him to stop) that’s not wrong to him.
Aside from my discomfort, I really enjoyed reading it. I couldn’t put it down & stayed up all night both nights I read this. I’m interested to see where else this goes even though I’m still traumatised by some of the things that happened to Tess. Wondering how it can last so many books but I’m willing to find out. I’ll try get to the next book soon, but hopefully will continue this year.
