180 pages in and I just don't care about anything or anyone. I hate not finishing a book but I can't waste time on a book I don't care about.

Definitely enjoyed this book. Read it in just three days. Del Toro and Hogan write with ease, doing well to flesh out a good cast of characters and leaving just enough unanswered so that part 2 will suck you right in.

I'm starting "The Fall" tomorrow.

Yeah, another vampire book. No sparkling, no preternaturally intelligent teens, no baseball. This time an airliner full of dead people lands in New York City and a pair of CDC doctors are off on a vampire hunting quest across the city. The jacket copy is apropos-very much like The Stand, full of action and dark horror. Very highly recommended, though, sadly, the first of a trilogy, so I will have to wait until 2011 to see how it ends.

Guillermo del Toro seems more and more like a long lost Grimm brother. This dark fairy tale hooked me right away with an eerie opening, and becomes part Outbreak and part Vampire Slayer, with a dash of historical fiction. I really enjoyed this re-imagining of the vampire mythology, and it was only when I reached the end that I remembered that this is just the first of a trilogy. Looking forward to the next installment...

Ok. I don't know if I can be unbiased in this review, because it was pretty gory and terrifying, and it gave me anxiety reading it. So it's hard to write positively about a book that you just wanted to hurry up and finish so you could stop being scared at night. That being said, I still didn't want to put this book down. The chapters are broken up into short mini-stories, so it almost feels like a movie switching from scene to scene or character to character. A lot of books like this spend forever building up a backstory, so they take a long time to get going. This one jumped right into it, and you learned bits and pieces as you went along. Also the ending was not too drawn out (although a little frustrating).

But I have to say that I'm most likely not going to continue on with the other two books in the series. I'm too much of a baby to subject myself to that all over again.
