Yay finally a book about an older man! Why is it so hard to find books about people above 40?

This is another good character driven story. The main characters are well developed. The sense of romance doesn't jive with what I'm into, and I get the sense that the author doesn't care for it either because there wasn't any showing of how it made the characters feel. But I like the natural leadership they each demonstrated.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Cayson and Roman met when Roman’s son and best friend fell in love. He pushed Cayson away in his shock at his intense attraction. When Roman finally gets the courage to act on his attraction to Cayson he gets pushed away. Cayson has trouble believing that Roman could really be attracted to him. His ex begins to cause problems and to push them apart, but Roman will do anything to prove to Cayson that his feelings are real and lasting.

Well I liked that part much more that I initially thought. With a plot I didn’t expect after reading the blurb. And *sigh, Aiden Snow makes just every (audio)book better.

I’m very happy for Quick and Cayson ♡

“Marry me.”

Hahahaha he hasn’t even said "I love you“ yet!!
Ah okay, here it is…

“I know it seems rushed and too fast, but …. You’re it.”
“I love you, Cayson. …I love you from a place so deep, that I feel like I’ve just started to live life. That a missing part of me has come alive, and it feels so good when I’m with you. …”

I’m so glad I love being in this world of A.E. Via because since the beginning of the series I can’t wait for the story of book #4 [b:Promises Part 4|52337295|Promises Part 4 (Bounty Hunters #4)|A.E. Via|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1584076281l/52337295._SX50_.jpg|60275217] - so it’s okay that there is the third book for me to listen to first.

***Audiobook Review***

I originally read this book because I wanted to continue with the series and didn’t want to miss something for a future book. I was in this series for the Ford brothers. I didn’t leave a review and the only thing I can remember is it wasn’t my favorite. I didn’t remember anything else…at all.

Like book 1, this book focuses more on the relationship than any suspense/crime story although that part of the story is woven into Quick and Cayson’s relationship building.

I like Quick and Cayson together. I still don’t understand the drama around the ex. Why the flip? What made him change his mind and go crazy?

As with most of her books, you have to overlook the repeated name brand dropping. Also, in this book, for some reason, the repeated stereotypes and characterizations of gender bothered me. I didn’t mark them down since I was listening, but I took the note down for my review so something about it stood out.

The audio performance is as good as all the rest with Mr. Snow. He’s perfect for these characters and this series.

I’m going to start off by saying that I love the cover for Promises: Part 2, and I am such a huge fan of A.E. Via’s work that I will read anything she puts out. As soon as I finished reading Promises: Part 1, I was eagerly awaiting the sequel for Cayson and Quick’s story. Especially since the ending promised so much more between these two characters.

Each chapter was written from either Cayson’s or Quick’s POV, which I didn’t mind because I was able to understand each of the guys’ perspectives on what was happening with them in any given situation, from chapter to chapter. The first chapter started off with Quick realizing that he’s getting up there in age, and he’s slightly envious of his friend Duke’s sudden happiness since falling for his (Quick’s) son, Vaughan. Quick is a bit lonely and he realizes that he needs to do something about it.

Now, in chapter two Cayson is realizing that his closeted friend-with-benefits, Joe, is no longer benefitting him, and he’s swearing not to allow himself to be mistreated by other men. By chapter three, the sparks between Quick and Cayson start to fly, with some light comical misunderstandings. The good doctor is trying his best to be professional, but Quick is proving to be a bit of a tease! Not to mention that in the last book, when Cayson tried to flirt, he was soundly rejected by Quick to the point of downright rudeness, and he’s wondering what the heck kind of game Quick is playing with him. Well, it turns out that Quick has been interested in men in the past but has never acted on it, and with the help of Duke and Vaughan, he sets out to woo the good doctor.

I really enjoyed this part of the story because I just love the dance of romance between two MCs as they get to know each other. Especially when they end up in the bathtub together. ~eyebrows waggling~

Buuut…

There were a couple of things that bothered me as I was reading Promises: Part 2. One involved some public bullying by Quick and Duke towards Joe, the ex, when it seemed that he was going to let Cayson go without a fight. I think it caused the situation that then occurred throughout the story, and I was glad that Cayson wanted nothing to do with that type of bullying for any reason, good or bad. And, in a weird way, I felt kind of bad for Joe, that his fear of being outed and yet wanting some kind of companionship, whether healthy or not, made him go a little over the top with craziness.

And the second—this one really bothered me the most—was when Quick lost his temper over something that happened to Cayson, and he put his hand to Cayson’s throat and squeezed hard enough to leave a mark. I grew up in DV situations and reading this actually caused me to have a negative reaction to it. It kind of upset me even though Quick was ashamed of himself afterwards, and Cayson was secretly turned on by it. But it’s why I’m not a big fan of BDSM novels.

All in all, there is one thing about A.E. Via’s stories—she does manage to get me involved in them emotionally, whether I like it or not. And now, Brian: I would love to find out more about him and what cause his muteness.

What can I say, I fall more in love with these guys the more I read about them. I just cannot get enough and try my hardest to savour each and every word of their stories so the book will seem longer. I just find it incredibly hard to get to the end, as saying good bye always breaks my heart. The thing that gets me through is I know they will get that much anticipated HEA and I will be right there with them, cheering them on. I am always in awe of this author. She brings something new and dramatic each and every time she publishes a book. I feel so blesses to have found this author and the amazing work she delivers. And her characters are always bad alpha hotness.

Once again I'm really disappointed with AE Via! I was really looking forward reading this book since I had enjoyed the first one but it didn't meet my expectations! I read another review saying that there were lots of inconstancies with the first one and I had the same impression. Then I re-read it just to be sure and some information changes from the 1st to the 2nd. I really hate it: How come the author cannot remember what she said in the previous book while I do? I think it shows a lack of serious from the author! And what happened with Day and God? I could barely recognise them !
As much as I adore the first books she wrote (which are among my all-time favourites) I might stop buying Via's book if they don't start getting better!
