Kathryn Dance is an investigator for the California Bureau of Investigations and is an expert in body language. An interrogation has gone wrong and the suspect got away so now she's carrying out routine insurance checks after an incident at a roadhouse. However, Kathryn can't help thinking that something doesn't add up. Then there's another incident and agents realise that someone is causing stampede's in public places. Can they track him down and discover why he is doing this before more people are killed or injured. Is Kathryn paying too much attention to the case and not noticing what is going on with her own family. I haven't read any of the other books in this series but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Good story interesting characters.

Jeffrey Deaver's unsub (antagonist) are know to employ with impunity an unique method/means in the pursuit of their grisly act. In this book fear or more exactly Panic is the weapon of choice. The ease with which it can be employed makes both the act and its consequence terrifying.
This book doesn't have the detailing of kinesics, which the previous books featuring Kathryn Dance had, but it has all the other elements one expects of Jeffrey Deaver, the constant building up of suspense, multiple story arcs, the intersection of some of the story arcs, the trademark misdirection and the psychological warfare the unsubs indulges in.
If psychological thriller is what you crave, then go for this.

3 stars!!!
I personally really liked the book but found it a bit slow-paced. I really liked the character "Kathryn Dance" and her thought process
The book involves three different crimes. I really liked the way how things tied up at the end and the way the crimes were solved
The writing was really good and unexpected at some times
I would recommend it to fans of the thriller genre since it is a good read.

This was like any other Deaver. During the book, a regular 3* police thriller. But at the end.. wait what just happend omg another plottwist my brain can't handle this! Deaverworthy again, love love love this kind of things!
I always forget how Deaver likes to lead readers down the garden path and then yank it out from under us. This book starts with a stampede for the exits in a nightclub, and then switches to a task force on the trail of drug dealers. Generally, I enjoyed the story, but Deaver has some issues around accurate descriptions from a woman's point of view. It's hard to put your finger on, but it's just off.
It was a very good read, though the ending wrapped all the subplots a little too neatly. But I enjoyed it immensely and couldn't put it down.
