Hooked

I’m definitely hooked on this series, if you love Harry Potter and what a grown up version this is the book for you.

Wow. That went downhill fast.

I was so interested in this book and the powers that Harley, the MC, possessed and I really liked the premise of the magic system. But alas, like most self-published kindle books it let me down. The theory of chaos forming all things was not congruent all throughout the book and the idea that basically teenagers or people who are not fully trained would be in charge of something that is the livelihood of all magical beings was ridiculous. on top of that, Harley, is this all powerful person that everyone looks to for help even though she is not fully trained and doesn't know anything actually made me want to pull out my hair. It was readable and I enjoyed a few parts in it.. I just know that I will probably not pick up the next book.

SpoilerSo Harley is a teen who has control over all the elements. Earth, wind fire, water...all of it...which is incredibly rare. She is also an Empath which is also incredibly rare and oh yea she has telekinetic abilities too. SO basically she's a talking rainbow colored unicorn that poops fairy dust. To be honest, I didn't mind that she had all the powers known to man but it did bother me that towards the end of the book they looked to her for answers for their problems or treated her like she was amazing and her snarky remarks held weight. The things that she would say were apparently something that no one else would think to say and the things that she did were something that no one else would do because she was so unique . At the end of the book, there was a trial going on and they bring her in and she spouts off a few sassy remarks and everyone is like oh yea this CHILD is right.. darn it. oh well. never mind. we have to end the trial and revoke everything we just said. ALSO do not get me started on how she was attracted to WADE ( what a terrible name) and he was attracted to her, he bought her lingerie but she couldn't figure out ??? what feelings he had for her and she detected no lust, attraction or ooeey gooey feelings from him even though SHE HAS BEEN AN EMPATH ALL OF HER LIFE and can feel that from other people.

Also the plot just went downhill 75% in... like an evil halfbrother that was evil and bad just because.. comeonnnnn.

Like Harry Potter with a less like-able protagonist.

Meeting the Characters
Harley
Wade
----------------------------------
What happens?
Harley is found by Wade trying to save a human from an attack by a gargoyle. As an unregistered and untrained magic user Wade invites her to join the coven so they can better train her.
Foster child Harley is unwilling to trust anyone. She doesn't know who her real parents are and doesn't understand why a coven would want her to swear loyalty to them, but she discovers she needs them just as much as they need her.
Final thoughts
There is a lot to this story and there aren't enough pages to go with it.
Its a typical YA but I do like Harley shes a stronger female YA character than most.

Refreshing take on the typical heroine

This book had a great flow to it that helped take me on the wild start of Harley's adventure. While there were moments of typical tropes I found more often Harley went beyond my expectations. The writing is also wonderful and helped guide me in seeing the world of magic as it was being discovered.

I have serious mix feelings about this book. It took me awhile to get through.
It was marketed as an ‘Adult Hart Potter - full of magic’.

As the story started all I could think about was man this is very similar to ‘ City of Bones’ Shadow Hunters…. And as the story went on a lot of similarities continues.
As for the writing and just the story itself I honestly found it to be enjoyable. Again I admit I have mixed feelings about this book as I am a shadow hunters fan.

I’d like to hear your thoughts.

*not my normal review but the concept of the book made me have to see if it was an adult Harry Potter kinda book.

I highly enjoyed this book it is a great start to an interesting series. I really liked the characters especially Harley and Wade they have an interesting relationship that could at some point change to how it is currently. I also really liked how Harley wants to be independent and I like that she is not a high school student. I really liked the plot it starts out with a young woman using her powers to find cheaters in a casino and it moved on to finding out about magic and many other very interesting things along the way. So overall I really liked this book and will continue the series at some point.
