I absolutely loved this story and these characters! Ethan and James are well written and developed characters and I loved getting to delve into their story as they both get started in their rookie major league season. Ethan is quiet and James is an outgoing personality but they get a long great from the beginning. I love how they interacted and started building the friendship during spring training and being there for each other. James is an affectionate guy that is "straight" and Ethan keeps being gay on the down low but isn't really hiding it. As they finish up spring training their friendship has grown and when James finds out that Ethan is planning on commuting, he says they should get a place together and be roommates. I loved how affectionate James was and open he was with Ethan. When Ethan really started falling and knew, he had started a conversation with James about confusing him and how affectionate he was and it led to a kiss and things took off from there. I loved how easy going both guys were. They have their obstacles that they have to deal with and work through with James getting injured and your normal life things that pop up. I loved how they supported each other and the banter back and forth. This was an easy one to engage with and get lost in. I loved these two and would absolutely love more in the series and this world and hopefully more peeks/catch ups with James and Ethan.

Cute and sexy sporty sports romance, and I very much enjoyed the baseball bits the most reading baseball romances always makes me nostalgic for those Toronto Blue Jays summers as a kid! But i digress.
Here we find a sweet and spicy story, with a surface-level touch of Him/Us, and couple of parents who are just the worst. I wasn't a fan of the ending regarding them, because it's 2025 and this hateful energy against love and sex is such a puritanical embarrassment i don't know how people can even open their mouths to validate this garbage.
Overall, this was light, super sexy fun with a bit of baseball, and Toronto rep I ALWAYS LOVE TO SEE! This was a good first outing and i'm looking forward to where this series goes next for sure!

Bright and fluffy, enjoyable little romp with baseball players. Cute characters — my favorite being James, the ultimate golden retriever “thinks he’s straight” switch-pitcher (ultimately in more ways than one as he experiences his bi awakening). Though his “jokes” about being gay sort of annoyed me. You’ve read these characters and pretty much the plot before — but that’s why we love our romance tropes, right?
Moderate: Homophobia
Switch Pitching is a cozy low angst baseball romance featuring teammates and roommates a bi-awakening and all the laughs. I truly loved reading it and highly recommend you give it a shot if you’re a fan of low angst contemporary reads.

This was a cute debut.
Ethan and James are rookies for a Major League Baseball team. After bonding at training camp, they decide to live together back in Boston. Ethan is gay and falling for his straight (very flirty and affectionate) friend, James. The story follows them through the season.
Overall, I enjoyed reading about Ethan and James; however, I don’t feel like there was enough character development to be truly invested in them and their relationship. The story did have elements I love- friends to lovers, pining, bi-awakening, golden retriever MC, and sports.

Great debut book for this author. The story was sweet with just the right amount of emotional turmoil. I will honestly say when i saw the title I thought this was gonna be a vers couple with some flip f*cking but alas that was not the case!!! I do however like the teammates/roommates/biawakening/friends to lovers going on. The dialect between the characters was sometimes i little cheesy but for a debut author i think they smashed it out of the ballpark (pun intended).
This was a cute teammates to lovers book! It starts with Ethan getting his call up to the big leagues, where he quickly makes friends with James, in a sort of "opposites attract" friendship. Some of the youngest members on the team, they bond quickly, spending more time outside of Spring Training together. Ethan can be friends with other guys, he's spend long hours with teammates before and kept it strictly platonic - he can do it now too, with James.
As they're preparing for the season, James asks Ethan to get a place together. It's the perfect deal - two friends, two teammates, and now roommates. Ethan is going to be okay with it - he's not going to fall for a straight guy. That's not what's happening. James is a lady's man, the team has dubbed him a bit of a player. It's just a friendship and their roommate arrangement isn't going to change anything, right?
This one just fell flat to me. I felt like we didn’t get enough character development or growth so I didn’t get attached to them in any capacity. I barely felt the chemistry. The time jumps sped through important moments for their friendship and relationship that it just felt like piecing everything together and not a coherent journey.
The story had a lot of telling and much less showing. It felt disconnected overall. The conflicts felt short and mostly ignored rather than fully resolved.
I did like the general plot and the basics of the characters. I did enjoy but definitely expected and hoped for a lot more.
This is definitely set up well for a series and I am excited for book 2!

I can already see it unfolding. Us: roommates. Him: everywhere. Me: crushing helplessly.
Switch Pitching was a very sweet and fluffy baseball romance. Loved the slow burn from friends to lovers, how touch-feely James was, Ethan pining for his teammate.
It fizzled out towards the end for me, but it was still a lovely & cuddly read.
I curse silently at how James unknowingly makes not falling for him way harder than it needs to be.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

Switch Pitching offers a combination of tropes that are hard to resist, at least for me. Sports romance with bi-awakening and friends to lovers, and a side of forced proximity. It was definitely engrossing.
I enjoyed reading about Ethan and James. I loved how completely different they were and yet they fit together perfectly. James was so clueless about his flirting and how confusing it could be for his gay friends and it was slightly embarrassing but also super adorable 🤭 I also liked that he took it all in stride once he realized his attraction for his friend, and he never really second guessed himself. I liked them both very much!
I did have a bit of a struggle to be completely immersed in the characters and connect with them as I think the writing might have lacked a bit of depth. It felt more like I was being told how they felt instead of being shown and experiencing the feelings alongside the characters during my reading.
Other than that, I think it was a nice story, particularly for a debut. I enjoyed it very much and if you're into sports and MM romance, and like banter, lots of flirting, and a little bit of drama, then you should check it out.
