Earth is on the brink of fall in every aspect.
16-year-old Mia Radcliffe, takes up a scavenger job up in a planet called "Gaia", only to free her illegal sister from indentured servitude. On the other hand Jules Addison, a young, black English archaeologist, wants to redeem his Father, famous scientist who decoded the Undying transmission years ago and then suddenly denied his own work. Due to some unexpected situations, Jules and Amelia join together and learn to trust, care and solve the Undying riddles placed in the Gaia Temple.

Mehercule,what a book!!
The book ends in a cliffhanger and believe me, it's worth it.Very fulfilling Sci-Fi novel without a dull moment in it.

Onward, If you dare

Happy Reading!!!

WOW! It is the first word that comes to mind after reading this book but it doesn't even come close to describing the brilliance of Unearthed! This is the first book I have read by the duo that is Kaufman and Spooner but I am a fan!

The chapters had alternating POVs which helped us to know how both Amelia and Jules were thinking and feeling during the many twists, turns and mysteries of this novel. Both characters were well formed making them relatable and easy to picture. I also liked that while from very different backgrounds, the two find common ground and work together. Our world needs more of that!

The action-packed journey these two take through the Undying temple on Gaia is full of puzzels and mathematics that I can only imagine to be fascinating. I am most definitely like Jules in that I would want to spend hours, days, weeks, etc., studying it all!
Basically, the plot of Unearthed was incredibly well thought out and an absolute pleasure to read. I was consistently enthralled with the story and found myself thinking about what would happen next when I unfortunately had to put the book down.
It has also been brilliantly set up for the second novel - it can go many different ways so it will be interesting to see which way Kaufman and Spooner choose!

The writing style was consistent and flowed really well, something I actually was not expecting from a book of this format by two authors. In fact, if there were not two names on the cover, I would have assumed it was all written by the same person.

Easily a 5 star book for me and I cannot wait to see where Kaufman and Spooner take Unearthed 2!

I loved the last line of the book, only reason I want to read the next book. Otherwise, it was pretty slow and the plot wasn't that shocking or amazing, to be worth the slowness.

I really enjoyed this book, it was fast-paced with lots of twists and turns. I loved Jules, he was so precious, swearing in Latin. Amelia likewise is a fun character, and I like how they complimented the other. They both brought intelligence and their own physical strengths to their hunt. Somethings I could see coming, but that was ok since how things are revealed work well. The last third of the book- it felt like a lot of adults screwing things up for everyone. If Jules and Mia were allowed to just do their thing then a lot of problems could have been avoided. But what a cliffhanger! Although I do have some suspicions about who showed up on the last page.... I look forward to the second book!

Unearthed is described as Indiana Jones meets Lara Croft in space, which is spot on and that's exactly what made me pick it up. The story was well-written and I enjoyed the characters and the setting. It's a fast paced, action-packed adventure.

Problem is: I just had a hard time getting into it. I really wanted to love it, but I never felt like I truly got into the story and I can't really put my finger on it as of why. Maybe because it was incredibly slow at the beginning and didn’t pick up until the last 100 pages or so. I don't know...

I will still check out the sequel though, hoping it will get better.

OK, so Amie Kaufman has now co-authored a number of YA books that are set in space, that have peril and mystery and include romance. And every one I’ve read has been super-entertaining. So I keep reading. This newest one didn't disappoint. I got hooked and speedily read to the end. Now I have to wait for a second book. Argh.

The story was fun and fast paced during the second half, but the first half was repetitive and dull. The cliff hanger at the end really showed me that this book should only be one and it was split for no good reason but money. Sorry, but my ire was raised. I tried to rate the book based on the story and writing and not the greed.

This novel was sold by the authors as “Lara Craft or Indiana Jones in space”, and while the crazy action/archeology scenes definitely seemed reminiscent of that, it didn’t quite live up to that level of awesomeness. This might be due to the fact that I couldn’t entirely wrap my head around one of the main puzzles in the temple. It’s just much easier to understand when I’m watching Indiana Jones solve it on a screen. But I will admit that I loved the whole archeology aspect of it, and I can personally say that I’ve never read a book about that. So props to Amie and Meagan for originality!

As for the first half of the story…it was kind of putting me to sleep. It’s not that it was slow or anything, because it was definitely pretty fast-paced. I just wasn’t digging the writing style and couldn’t connect with the characters at all. I have no idea why this was the case, but I just found the characters annoying and their instant attraction to each other didn’t help with this. But a little ways after the halfway mark, Unearthed really started to pick up!! There were just even more dire and crazy situations and I finally started to NOT hate the characters.

But towards the end, there were SO MANY PLOT TWISTS. Of course a bunch of them were predictable, but for the most part I was being shocked page after page. Quicksilver whom is precious and I love would be very disappointed that I honestly didn't see that ending coming.

But seriously. That ending was crazy and shocking and what made me really enjoy the book.

I'd recommend this novel to anyone that's a fan of sci-fi or the authors themselves. However, this cannot compare to The Illuminae Files. It was honestly very close to being a 3.5 star read but that ending really saved it. Now I’m very eager to see where things will lead in the next book.
