Faced-paced suspense. Great read-a-like for Girl on the Train fans and in fact this book was much better.

Lacking a little bit in plausibility and depth of characters but a satisfying pager-turner nonetheless.

dark emotional mysterious reflective sad tense medium-paced

I didn't enjoy this book as much as I was expecting to after reading others by this author. I found this book predictable and somewhat unrealistic. I did not have any sympathy for Toni at all and actually found her teenage self annoying. I found it difficult to believe that Shauna would still be bullying Toni years after the first incident. In my experience, teenagers do grow up and gain some maturity by the time they graduate and it seemed that Toni and Shauna were stuck in their 9th grade feud. I also expected the adult versions of the characters to act like adults and they still seemed to be high school age. All in all, the book was just okay for me. It wasn't horrible and I was surprised by the ending, but it was just alright.

Main character got so screwed.

Choices...all along the way and their consequences for everyone involved, take on a whole new meaning as this story unfolds. Very good.

Another book where if I'd had anything else on hand to read I would have given up, which is a shame as I remember really enjoying Still Missing. The writing here is poor though. It's told in first person but very much at arm's length, it's almost like a shopping list of events: 'My sister was murdered, then we went to trial. I went to prison. I'm out now.' There was little description of events to actually pull you in and make you care. It's definitely all telling, it doesn't let you feel or intuit anything for yourself.

It also seemed fairly unbelievable as a crime and that they'd go to prison based on the evidence, but I could have let that slide had the writing been stronger. I had little to no sympathy for Toni (teen angst to such a degree always winds me up), and so wouldn't have cared if she'd never found out the truth.

Wow, that was intense! The book definitely brought out strong emotions in me, from hatred, disgust, and feelings of revenge to compassion, sadness, and, finally, relief. (I still want to punch Toni's mom, though!) think it's a very powerful story that is not far-fetched by any means.

Great story. Couldn't put it down.

A decent thriller, but I prefer other books by this author. I just got tired of all the mean people in the story.

This was an interesting read, and the mystery of what happened ‘that night’ still had a surprise element. This was not a very strong thriller and quite average overall.
