I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book through goodreads- my first ever! I love Chevy Stevens and was not disappointed by this latest book. The alternating time periods between chapters kept me engaged and guessing throughout the book. I enjoyed the chapters on Toni's prison life and her struggles with her family and sister. I think that the ending could have used a little more development and a few twists and the characters were a bit blah. Overall, a solid read!

Mrs. Stevens just gets better and better with each book. I absolutely, devoured this book. That Night is full of "musts"...must have, must read, must clean spot on bookshelf, and must not put down! This is what happened to me. I literally could not put this book down, even to grab a bite to eat. Ok, so I did eat but it was kind of hard to eat with one hand. I was too busy holding the book with my other hand.
I was cheering for Toni and Ryan the whole time. I wanted the good guys to come out on top. All the other characters were just as interesting. Which really helped me to get into this book and stay focused. Even though it was not a secret who killed Toni's sister, I did not know the why? Why did they kill her? This was the big question. I tried and tried to figure it out before the answer was given to me but I had no such luck. I love when a book keeps me guessing until the end. I can't wait until the next book.

Having read all of Chevy’s novels, delighted to have the opportunity to read an ARC of THAT NIGHT, otherwise, not sure I could stand the suspense of waiting.
Wow, what a night, “THAT NIGHT” was! Stevens is at the TOP OF HER GAME with this upcoming release -- her best novel to date! A page-turner and riveting thriller, which will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end- you will not be able to put down!
THAT NIGHT is about one mysterious night, which changed the lives of three teens –Toni, her sister Nichole, and her boyfriend, Ryan. This novel is so different than most teen murder mysteries, with a new twist, which I found very engrossing and satisfying.
Chevy Stevens masterfully crafted the plot, suspense, and characters--as goes back and forth from present day (2013), as Toni is getting out of prison, at the opening of the book, from Rockland Penitentiary, Vancouver, having served her time, now on parole, at age thirty--four, as well as boyfriend, Ryan for a murder they did not commit (they still are not allowed to be together as would violate their parole) -- With flashbacks from (1996) and events leading up to “That Night”, when they were teens in high school, at Woodbridge High in Campbell River, and the time she was incarcerated and after. However, when they get out, their troubles do not end.
Toni and Ryan were in love as teens, spending their high school years planning for the day of graduation so they could be together, and move out on their own, as each had to fight their own battles at home and found solace in one another.
However, due to constant bullying and threats to Toni’s life, (these girls were devils), she was almost afraid to go out that night after graduation, to a party at the lake. Then oddly, her sister Nichole, which has sided with her nemesis for months, wants to tag along after she has been acting weird. What happened on THAT Night led to the arrest of Toni and Ryan? Who was the real killer?
Stevens definitely knows how to create bullying --Shauna, was the queen of manipulating with her ring of gal followers, with a capital B, and even a cop for a dad! I enjoyed how Stevens maintained the focus on this one night, adding to the suspense and drama, versus creating a number of secondary side story lines. It was like one set up after another, and could not believe Toni was going back for more, to this same town where these people still lived! Of course, when she was in prison, the halfway house, and everywhere she turns – (in or out), she is in the middle of, one hell of a nightmare.
A mystery with lots of twists and turns, dark secrets, tension, and cover ups, a psychological thriller which will keep you guessing until the end (so hated when I was at the park reading, at the good part towards the end and my battery dies on my e-reader – so scrambling to get to my car charger, so I could finish).
THAT NIGHT was so realistic and believable. Loved the character, Toni and her dog Captain, pulled for her relationship with Ryan, totally disliked Toni and Nichole’s mother, her dad was a good one, and enjoyed her relationships with a few of the good in-mates in prison. No matter what she does, poor Toni has one obstacle after another—however, she will not rest until she finds the real killer and justice is served.
THAT NIGHT is a winner (5 star +++), and one you will WANT to pre-order---you will not want to miss reading this one . . Would love to see a movie based on this novel – what a cast – can you imagine? Well done, Chevy!
A special thank you to St. Martins Press and NetGalley for an ARC, in exchange for an unbiased and honest review.

That Night dances between mystery novel and revenge story. The reader wants Toni to be vindicated for her conviction, especially as details emerge through flashback about how she was treated by family members and a group of mean girls in the time leading up to her sister’s death.
I found myself particularly interested in the family dynamics Stevens portrays. With one daughter dead and another accused of the crime, the girls’ parents handle their ongoing relationship with Toni in very different ways. I found myself thinking about the possible limits of unconditional love when one of your children hurts another. Readers with sisters might have an opinion about the way the relationship between Toni and Nicole is portrayed — there’s definitely a sense of jealously and conflicting loyalty between the two of them, particularly when Nicole begins to spend time with Toni’s tormenters.
With all of the questions about the relationships between the characters, Chevy Stevens’ novel would be an interesting choice for a book club looking for a quick read with lots of discussion possibilities.

Another amazing read by Chevy Stevens. This book was an emotional roller coaster of a ride. The bullying, the imprisonment, everything that Toni went through. I loved how the story was written in present & past tense. The relationship between her and her sister Nicole. Her relationships with friends made in prison and with Ryan. Shauna’s character was intense. It was definitely an amazing read with a good ending.
Loved this book. Chevy Stevens waits until the last moments to really answer all the questions. Honest, raw and deeply compelling.
Chevy Stevens and I started out strong. I loved the first few books I read by her. LOVED.
What is this?
Toni is a teenager when her and her boyfriend Ryan are sent to prison for the murder of her younger teenage sister.
Too much of the book is spent repeating over and over how Toni and her parents (especially her mother) are at odds. How her mother favored her younger "good" sister and how Toni was the rebellious one.
Her boyfriend Ryan came from a family that was looked down upon by the people in the area. Ryan destined to become like his alcoholic father?
Evidently listening to grunge and metal leads to a life of crime as well.
So, Toni is bullied by a girl she used to be friends with all throughout high school. Shauna is such a hyper bully. So cliched. Popular, spoiled, cop dad...
But then, Toni is bullied in prison AND the halfway house??? WTH?
I'm not going to go on to what happened when Toni is released from prison.
It was entirely too much.
Read if you feel like being frustrated.
