I don't know, all my GR friends seemed to love this one, but I was a bit let down. Sure, it was funny, and it was sweet, but after awhile, Shawn's Law (his own brand of luck) started to wear me down. Or really, more Shawn's sad sack, no good for you attitude wore me down. It was cute, and I did like the characters, I guess I was just expecting more. Not sure what, just more.

Slight spoiler so
Spoiler I didn't get why Harvey decided to leave town on one of his save the world tours while things were so messed up with Shawn. It just felt like it came out of nowhere.

Hilarious! I laughed a lot but at the same time, I had a hard time believing that Shawn was 29. He had a somewhat youthful personality.

È raccontato al passato, come se i due protagonisti stessero ricordando come si sono conosciuti e messi insieme.

Poor Shawn suffers from an extreme case of Murphy's Law. Whatever can go wrong, will! He takes being accident-prone to a new level, is on first name basis with all the nurses and EMTs, the auto club knows him personally, and his family keeps their first aid skills up to date! So of course the first time he meets the man of his dreams he has just fallen.

Harley is absolutely perfect! So patient and loving. If I were him, I would have run for the hills! I loved this book. It was funny, hot and sweet.

I laughed a lot and even shared a tear or two.

I loved Shawn and his whacky family. I loved his ditzy sister and her sweet kids. I loved his mother in her glorious confusion. I was so happy Shawn at least got to his mother back even for that brief instant.
I mostly liked Harley, but I did think he was a bit self centered.
That was also part of the reason this didn't get the full pot from me.

SpoilerI didn't like how he was so clueless to how he hurt Shawn. And I certainly didn't like the apology scene. Sure the both had part in the break up, but why did Shawn have to be the first to apologize? In my mind he was the one who was hurt worse, because being (or feeling) belittled by the one who says they care about you and making you feel bad about yourself is more damaging than a break up. I can see how Shawn took the cowardly way out when he should have opened his mouth to tell Harley how he was feeling.
I didn't like how Harley leaves the country after just accidentally finding out Shawn was in the hospital. Did he ever find out what happened to him? Why didn't he start his forgiveness campaign before going away?

For better or for worse, I can count on being utterly charmed by every one of Renae Kaye's characters. Though this one is not a particular favourite, I still enjoyed it.

A deftly woven comic tale, that is pacy and funny. Renae Kaye is proving to be one of my favourite authors.
Shawn and Harley take turns telling their story but their names on each chapter keep the pov straight. Shawn's chapters are told in a much put upon present tense whereas Harley's are in the style of a much loved reminiscence. The story is told contiguously and these two styles do work together.
Each chapter also has a quirky sub heading. Lots of slapstick type humour, though Shawn's Mum's declining health is moving, as well as setting up some of the more comic episodes. Though she is heartbreakingly good when Shawn has a big accident and reverts to her mum self.
Loved it, will read again and the last chapter - oh so short but very funny

A book that made you laugh but also could make you cry. Living with someone that has Alzheimer's is not easy and Shawn must have had the patience of a saint. Glad that he found someone who could love him as he was. Great story
