Get the kleenex, and prepare to laugh at the same time. Goldens are the BEST dogs!

Fantastic book. Insightful, funny, charming, sad. All the stuff a good dog brings to an owner's life. Dean Koontz nailed this one. He knows dogs, and is a better person (and writer) having been blessed with Trixie.

I really enjoyed reading this book, especially towards the end. It took me some time to warm up to it, but once I did, it was truly clear that he and his wife adored and loved Trixie. As a fellow dog lover, I fully understood the extent of his love towards Trixie. I teared up and cried slightly at the end, but he didn't have a negative tone about it.

If you read this book and all you can think about is that Koontz sounds self important or whatever it is other people are saying, you're doing it wrong. I didn't get that at all from this book, because I knew that it was about dogs, and I love dogs. Especially golden retrievers. I love reading about people who do nice things involving dogs, and I love it even more when there are people who actually understand dogs and treat them as family members. That's what this book seemed like it was supposed to be about, so that's what I focused on, and it was wonderful.

Cried my little eyes out. A great read. I can totally relate to this book, with my cat Patches. <3 Trixie was a lovely companion.

This book was good, but I can't give it the four stars I want to for one reason. The stories of the dog were amazing. They were cute, funny, entertaining, and touching. I also loved getting to know more about Dean Koontz's life and the backstory of how he developed some of his book plots. But the portions of the book where he talked about Tao's, and philosophy, and in general rambled trying to explain things that he believed bored me. I actually skipped some paragraphs because of it, and I never do that. It wasn't enough to make me tell people not to read it. It really is a good story, but it didn't exactly live up to the expectations I had in my mind.

I love to read non-fiction about animals, but frequently the books are penned by enthusiastic pet owners who are poor at writing. This book, however, was written by a seasoned novelist, and it was an engaging and funny book to read. I highly recommend it.

Author Dean Koontz tells of his remarkable dog Trixie and how she changed his life. Super sweet.

I've always steered away from Koontz's fiction because I'm not into that genre so much - but in his memoir he talks about his dog characters in some of his books, so I think I will check those out!
