My 100th book of the year and I thought it would be fitting to complete my challenge this year with an author I immensely admire and whose mysteries I've grown up reading. Surprisingly, I hadn't read The Murder of Roger Ackroyd until now.

Hercule Poirot is my favourite Agatha Christie character. This small, amusing man is such a delight to encounter. His eccentric mannerisms make him a fantastic persona to read. This is one of Christie's best murder mysteries. Although if you have read enough of her, you will find it a bit easy to guess but way towards the end. Like Sherlock Holmes, Poirot's mysteries are also dead simple but you never realize this until the end moment.

The structure of the book is really good, the characters are also suspicious and everyone has a motive. Along the way, a few small mysteries also come to light. A brilliant comfort read you wouldn't want to miss!

Alright this is my 5th Agatha Christie book and I admit it I’m addicted to murder mystery. In this book we get a retired Hercule Poirot. His normal companions are not with him on this adventure. Poirot with no cases, no Bouc, and no Captain Hastings settles in for a quiet life of gardening. That is… until the murder of Roger Ackroyd. At once Mr. Ackroyd’s niece summons Poirot out of retirement to solve the crime. Aiding Poirot in the investigation is Dr. Sheppard and his gossip of a sister. This book was a breath of fresh air in the tales of Poirot with an amazing twist. For now, this is my favorite Agatha Christie novel, with several more on my reading list.

If you can read Agatha Christie's The Murder of Roger Ackroyd fresh, without knowing anything about it, I recommend you do! It's a very clever story, and the reveal often surprises people.

That said, don't let knowing the solution spoil it. For me, this time was a reread, but with enough time in between that I'd forgotten the significance of the clues, so that was a lot of fun too, trying to piece together the puzzle while knowing the end result.

It's a merciful break from my pet hate, Poirot's friend Hastings. The book is narrated rather by a local man, James Sheppard, and though he also indulges himself sometimes in thinking that Poirot's ridiculous, it's less prominent. (I know some people feel fondly that Hastings is a himbo, and I can see that, but... he's not my cup of tea.)

I don't want to say too much about it, but it's definitely my favourite of Christie's work so far, even now I've read more of them (it was also the first of her books I read, back when I studied the development of crime fiction for a course at university).
