I- I hated that ending so much, that I actually wanted to scream. While this book wasn't amazing up until that point, as it felt a little too much like a Single White Female reimagining, it was fairly enjoyable, but that "twist" really pissed me off
Spoilerthe way Honey gets away with two attempted murders, and the possible full-on murder of Bill, while convincing everyone that Becka is crazy, and that she's the one that tried to kill Bill was honestly too upsetting for words
. I was very tempted to give this book a 1 star rating purely because of that, but like I said, there were some really nice parts to this, especially Bill. I love how he remains by Becka's side, and doesn't just automatically assume that she's losing it, too many horror stories feature that trope, and it's honestly really tiring. I don't really know if I'll bother with the sequel to this, because I haven't heard the greatest things, and that's from people that actually enjoyed this one lol, but only time will tell.

When R.L. Stine gets it right, he really gets it right!

This Fear Street version of Single White Female is scary and fun. It's also cleverer than most people give it credit for! Honey may be a few books short of a library shelf, but Becka isn't exactly the poster child for calm and collected!

As everybody knows, the ending was so unpopular that a contest was created to decide how Honey should get her comeuppance in a sequel.

However, I thought the ending worked perfectly well with what came before it. What was so creepy and unsettling about Honey was that we never really knew where she was coming from or what was motivating her. She wants to be Honey's best friend and absolutely nothing will stand in her way!

This is my favourite Fear Street book - heck, one of my favourite books of all time. I've read it many times over the years. It's perfectly paced, with little nuances you don't usually get in a R.L. Stine quickie - as mentioned before, Becka is more than a bit prone to hysteria and may possibly be an unreliable narrator.

What a pity they had to tarnish this near-perfect slice of teen terror with a silly sequel.

Becka Norwood is gearing for a fun Christmas break with her friends Lilah and Trish. And she's especially excited about rekindling her relationship with ex-boyfriend Bill, who doesn't check any of the boxes for Becka's parents' approval. Trish has a Christmas party coming up with no parents around, and Becka has a silvery skirt prepped to wear over a sexy catsuit that Bill won't be able to ignore. Nothing can derail this train of teenage fun. But someone can!

Moving next door to Becka on Fear Street is her long forgotten friend Honey Perkins that no one can remember, but she sure has several memories of her and Becka. And this best friend with oversized hands is going to make sure no one comes between her and Becka as Honey pulls a Jennifer Jason Leigh from Single White Female to take over Becka's identity.

Let's run down those YA Thriller totals:

1 dead body

Kill Rating: ☠️ / 5: We get a knife to the chest in the last pages of the book.

Knitting Fu
Strangle Fu
Delivery truck Fu
Water gun Fu
Shove Fu
Accusation Fu

Gratuitous leather bomber jacket
Gratuitous distracted driving
Gratuitous man hands
Gratuitous conversation snubbing
Gratuitous gaslighting
Gratuitous awful Christmas music
Gratuitous prior Fear Street character cameos

Hanky Panky: Becka and her bad-boy, leather jacket wearing boyfriend Bill make out at River Ridge and swap Spit various other occasions.

Book Cover: Our protagonist Becka is startled by a Christmas present with a butcher knife through it. Cool cover, but Becka never receives such a threatening gift.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5. Fear Nerd says, "Check it out!"

I didn't remember this one being exactly memorable, but man, it had a lot going on it that I really enjoyed this go round. I found Honey to be such an interesting character, and I hope we learn more about her in the sequel that I never previously read.

While the majority of this book is from Becka's perspective as the main character, the final chapter shifts to the "best friend's" perspective to provide an interesting ending. I would have liked to see more development of Honey's character to understand her point-of-view better.

It was okay. I have read a lot of his books lately and it just was okay. I hated the main character, so dislikeable and snobby. Idk these characters get what they deserve most of the times. I will say I like the is she or isnt she guessing game, better than some. Not so good as others.

I didn't enjoy this one as much. I don't know if it was not enough action, or I kept getting distracted by the use of my name. If I'm ever a villain, I hope to do a better job than that!

Even though this book is immature and silly I still love to read it every year at Christmas time.
