Catching up with Kimberley, Sam, and the rest of the dead woman crossing crew merely a year after their first big murder case was everything I needed. This story jumps right in and will leave you at the edge of your seat trying to figure out who did it. I absolutely loved the banter and potential budding romance you see between Kimberley and Sam. I hope to see more from this town and know if there’s a happily ever after coming for Kimberley and Jessica

I actually liked this book more than the first book - I think you could totally read them out of order but you won’t get much background into the characters. I really didn’t suspect the killer to be who it was, there was a lot of possible suspects. While this was a crime book, I’d love to see a third to explore a relationship with Kimberly and Sam that we never got to see.

This is book two in the Detective Kimberley King series. Ten year old Piper, who lives with her grandparents is suddenly missing and then turns up dead. It’s a murder with no leads for quite sometime. Every path brings the detective to a dead end it seems, from camp counselors to neighbors, to family, the detective is looking at everyone. Then, Piper’s best friend Miley goes missing...

The POV in this book changes back and forth from time to time. Most chapters are from the detective’s point of view, but some are the killer detailing their acts. As I read the chapters from the killer’s POV, it felt like watching an episode of Dexter when he narrated what he was doing and why, recounting moments. The ending on this book was nothing like the first. I had things pretty much figured out with the first book but not this one! The ending came completely out of left field! Also, with the new introduction of a possible love interest named Caleb, I was left with some serious loose ends questions. I am excited to see what the next book in the series brings!

⚠️TW: murder, abuse

A special thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this eARC! Last Day Alive releases April 20th!

Me oh my, what a wild ride this second installment in the Detective Kimberley King series was!

Please excuse me a moment as I gather myself and catch my breath….

I devoured this book in one sitting, ONE… SITTING! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Jeneva Rose is an incredible writer, her books are wicked fun as she consistently throws readers into the nitty-gritty of these thrillers she continues to write.

Last Day Alive follows Detective Kimberley King investigating the murder of one young girl and the disappearance of her friend. Per usual Jeneva fashion – she had me guessing until the final chapter of Last Day Alive, and it was a “HIGH-YAAA!” straight to the feels as the murderer was revealed and that ending… for the love of sweet Barb’s freshly baked apple pies, I did not see that ending comin’! I am eager to read future books in this series and hope you know who and you know who finally do the do already
