It was worth a read because it answered some of the questions that Because of Mr. Terupt left hanging and I was glad to see the kids return and grow but the novel's companion was so much better and could have stood alone.
So I liked this book, but not as much as the first one. I was previewing it for my fourth grader. I found it to be true to the age (6th grade) with it's discussions of 'crushes', 'getting their periods'…However, I might have her wait a year if she doesn't ask to read it. While those topics are age appropriate for 6th grade, I don't know if she needs to read them now (with the sixth grade commentary that goes along with those topics). There is also a section about a highschool boy that gets into trouble with alchohol. Again, a little above my particular fourth graders level.
Not bad for a sequel. I enjoyed "Because of Mr. Terupt" so much more. The underage drinking, pot smoking and periods were handled appropriately (ie. the drinking/drugs were recognized as problems and there were consequences), so I didn't have a problem with my fifth grader reading this as other readers have.
A really enjoyable sequel to The Fall of Mr. Terupt. (And yes, you MUST read that first!) All of the students continue on their journey to grow and change for the better, with some hiccups along the way, of course. It is told in the same style as the first one, with alternating chapters by the different students, told in their own voices. It does not pack as much power as the first book, but it is nice to revisit old friends.

While I loved Because of Mr. Terupt, this book was not as good in my opinion. It had a lot of focus on adolescence so be aware of that if you are having you child read this book.

Before Reading: CAN'T. WAIT.
After Reading: Ugh. I don't really see why a sequel was needed so much. I mean, yay that the kids grew more, but I felt this book to be unintersting. Also, I know some people have a problem with Alexia smoking in the sixth grade, but in this world we live in, that is actually the reality. No sugar-coating it. Of, course its bad, but don't people do it anyway? This book was inappropriate in a way, that I just rolled my eyes and groaned. I get that they are 6th graders and kudos that the author potrayed that.
My probolem with Mr. Terupt: I can't imagine him saying some of the things he does! Who calls their student "stud"??(pg.158) I get that the teacher is their friend but that was just weird.-_-
Conclusion: While I loved what the author was attempting with this book- Peter finally forgives himself- I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked. I do appreciate that everything was wrapped up nicely (no more questions!). But, just not the right one for me.

I loved joining these kids on their second year together as a class. The ups, the downs, the highs, the lord, the successes, the struggles, the smiles, the tears... a fantastic story with many lessons to share. I enjoyed watching each kid grow. This is a time in life when so much is changing, you don't know which way is up. Having a set of kids your age to relate through, to read experiences of, can be helpful to preteens/tweens!
