I have no idea how this book has as good a rating as it does.
I love the Elm Creek Quilt book series. I love the characters, old and new.
But I absolutely cannot recommend a book whose first 40+ pages and 90% of the remaining pages is all straight recap of prior books.
This book isn't that long - the original content (including what little new material is incorporated in the flashbacks) is less than 20 pages combined.
Definitely a rip-off.
The only thing saving this from a 1 star review and me violently tossing it out the proverbial window is that I love the characters enough to put up with all of that horrific backlog to enjoy the new, even just a few pages worth.
Still, the author and publisher both should be ashamed of themselves for passing this off as a new novel.

I liked the different stories and backgrounds on each person. A good holiday read with lots of Christmas incorporated.

Even though this book is a part of a series, you can read it as a standalone. This is what I did, and I don't recommend it. Every chapter is dedicated to a different member of the quilt group, and I had too much to catch up on, so I didn't really enjoy it. I also wanted there to be more fun Christmas time activities, but there really weren't any.

Quotes I enjoyed:
- "You can't continue to go through the motions of living. You have to truly live. James loved you. Don't choose a life of perpetual grieving for his sake. That's no way to honor his memory."
- "James would have wanted her to live a full, rich life. Richard would have been thoroughly disappointed with her if she forgot how to laugh, to enjoy life, and to embrace adventure."

I thought this series was dead, so I was very excited to find out another book was being published. And yet, it really fell flat. Like many of the later books in the series it just recaps a lot of backstory that has already been told multiple times.

Mary Beth turning the heat off? Any adult woman who has grown up in the northern climate wouldn’t make that mistake.

Nancy and Melanie completely hands off in the set-up of Elm Creek Manor falls flat too.

It’s generally a feel-good story with a few cranky characters thrown in to add unneeded drama. I would have loved an actual novel made up of new stories though, not just recycled old ones.

Rinse and repeat, if you have read the other ones this is basically info pulled from all the other books.

Perhaps it is because this is the first book of the series that I read. I just found that there were so many problems in relationships. It just did not seem to be moving anywhere and at times it seemed as if It was just describing quilt patterns and people who did not get along.

Great book with lots of quilting information in it. A bit wordy though.
