Loved it as a kid, but reading it to my kids now to find out the ending was rushed and many plot points were left unresolved. Disappointed.

We thoroughly enjoyed this one and Elliott is still talking about it. It ended very abruptly and its conclusion was likely way over my son's wee head, but the adventures of Stuart kept him interested and excited for his nightly instalment.

I have been so excited to read this book and it’s been on my list ever since I read and LOVED Charlottes Web, but it was such a let down for me. Possibly because I went into it with such high expectations or because I grew up with the Stuart Little films, so I had those in my heart while reading it and the book is so different.

This book doesn’t have the sentiment and the love that is clearly ever present in the movies and I ended up not liking any of the characters within the book. I didn’t see any of the bond between any of the characters, as there was no relationships developed or clearly established between them.

I wasn’t a fan on the writing or the story and was just hoping that it was going to improve as I continued reading. It was so disappointing.

Another book where the main character does a lot of things but NOTHING HAPPENS. Can someone please tell me why E. B. White is so highly praised as an author? I've yet to find a book of his that I enjoyed.

I get that this is episodic by chapter, which is supposed to be great for children with short attention spans so they can drop the book and come back to it and not have to remember what happened last, but this is not at all cohesive, ends abruptly, and is a bit of a snooze fest. The characters manage to be flatter than Flat Stanley and obnoxious all at the same time.

I have seen the movie version a few times and it is much better than the book. While the entire thing is fantasy and unrealistic (talking mouse, and all) the movie makes everything somewhat more.... plausible?

Back to half price this one goes to let down someone new.

Eleanor and I finished this. I remember really liking it but it took us forever to read. I don't think it captured her imagination. Maybe in a couple more years? Who knows. Oh well.

I just-

It’s bad. Oh god just so bad. Why is everyone so oblivious to the fact they gave birth to a MOUSE????

Can’t believe I’m saying this but the film was better

This book was surprisingly charming. The audio had a sort of echo to it, and it almost sounded like you were listening to a story from another time. Which, I guess, is exactly what I was doing. A strange premise with a sudden ending, yet I'm glad I finally picked this one up.

For someone who writes exclusively about animals, White doesn’t know much about them. Wild mice live about a year, two if they’re lucky. Domesticated mice might make it as old as six or so. About halfway through the book Stewart turns seven and suddenly goes from spending all day in the house with his mom to getting a job and then breaking out on his own? Then he tries to date an adult woman (teenager?) who for some reason is two-inches-tall but he throws a tantrum and she ends the date early. What the bleep is going on here?

(before this starts, I didn't realize I had so much to rant about with this book until I started writing this review. I hope you enjoy it.) It was very interesting to read this book as someone who grew up constantly watching the movies. Let me tell you, this book is a real disappointment compared to the movies. For one, all the characters are worse in this book. The only thing that ties them together is their names. In the book Stuart is stupid and annoying, George is just plain horrible, and the parents are dumb. I'm sorry, but the movies are 10 times better just from the characters. Then there is the plot. The plot in this book is very random and very children's book type writing. It was fun to see this weird things that a mouse was doing, but in the end I didn't really care. The whole plot with him chasing after the bird was just horrible, and the ending was the worst thing ever exspecially since I was hoping it would make up for the rest of the book. I would also like to point out that they never explained why there was a mouse in their family. They just acted like it was a normal thing. Even the people Stuart talked to outside of the family were just like, "oh cool a talking mouse that wears clothes and has a human family". Maybe that was supposed to be apart of the strangeness of it but I don't know. In the end, the movies are way better, and you shouldn't waste you time on this book.

A fun story about the adventures of a mouse. Stuart gets to do all kinds of things from saving a bird, to being a substitute teacher. However, the books ends rather abruptly, which is disappointing.
