This was a fun read, looking at all the quirks of humanity through the lens of an outside viewer who has never seen the like of the species before. Nothing unexpected here, but heartwarming and sweet.

What a fantastic book. The first Matt Haig book I read was The Midnight Library a couple of years ago and I forgot how much I love Matt Haig’s writing. There’s something really poetic yet simple and profound about the way he comments on the complexities/beauties of being human. It was so easy to be absorbed by the way the protagonist simultaneously analyzes and grows fond of the human experience. This book was written 10 years ago but it hits closer now more than ever given the state of the world. This book just checks all the boxes for what I could possibly want in a fiction book that uses mortality and the belief that humans are the most intelligent life form in the galaxy as the catalyst for this story.

Matt Haig books (at least the three I’ve read) are always nice palate cleansers in between more intense reads. Ideal whimsy/quality balance

4/5stars

this was great! Seriously. It could have been a bit longer because a few things were a little unbelievable in terms of this story. but if you want a heart-warming, funny story about what it means to be human definitely pick this one up!!

I would give 4.5 only because I found the beginning hard to get into. The end fully justified the means. I didn’t annotate anything until the second half and then I became scared I’d run out of book tags. Such a unique way of writing philosophy. I became deeply attached to Newton and I miss him somehow.

I saw this book recommended on a list of books from 'TED talks' speakers (I think that makes sense). I'm so glad I bought it as it's probably not the type of book I would go for, aliens, maths, etc.
it is a great book, with many insights into humanity that I loved, it made me laugh a lot and cry too. I would highly recommend it and I too will be referring to the list of advise to Gulliver at the end. Brilliant!!!!

I absolutely love books that make me existential.  And this book did. It took me for an emotional roller coaster. I was sobbing by the end.
