“But, Jacob…if it’s ever a choice between me and you…it’s gotta be me.”
He knew exactly what I meant. If someone’s gotta go….
“Why would you say something like that?”
“You have a family.”
He balled my jacket in his fist. “Damn it, Vic, so do you. I am your family.”

Oh my heart! <3 <3 <3

I was fortunate enough to receive an arc for Bitter Pill and I quickly and eagerly devoured it, despite trying to savour every moment. What can I say? I’m not much good at delayed gratification when it comes to eagerly anticipated books.#sorrynotsorry

Thankfully, this latest instalment in my favourite series finds Victor and Jacob working the same case, a nice switch from the last book when they were apart for most of it (although endearingly forlorn about it all). I absolutely love how Vic has gained confidence in his own abilities with each book, not only his psychic ones, but also as an FPMP agent. Jacob is, as always, Vic’s biggest fan and it brings me such joy to see them together, with their relationship as strong as ever.

I’m not going to rehash the plot (you can read the blurb) and I’m not going to give away any spoilers. I’m just going to say that this was a fantastic read that does the series proud. The plot is solid, the pacing is excellent and the ending just keeps you wanting more. I never want this series to end.

I love these books, and Gomez Pugh's narration.

Looking forward to finding out more about Vic's past and the impact and implications of the revelation at the end.

It was great to have old characters (Carolyn, Zig and Warwick) play a part in this one. As well as the young detective (confess I've forgotten his name) whonwas so impressed with Vic's handling of the zombies.

Jackie's story was really poignant.

All in all, good to see Vic grow as a person, a medium and an investigator.

More please!

This is only my second time reading this and the first I’ve listened. I love Gomez Pugh’s portrayal of these characters! I couldn’t quite remember how it all played out but it was a great story. I loved how much the pair of them have grown! This world completely sucks me in.

This was another amazing installment in this always fascinating and incredible series. It was full of action and packed an emotional punch to boot with the reunions with Carolyn and Zig and the revelation of Jackie and the ghost baby. But what made this amazing was Vic and Jacob working together, the way they used to, and Vic's continued growth. The crime itself was fascinating and surprising, the parties responsible were completely unexpected. And that ENDING!! Holy HELL!! I need Book 12 NOW!!!!

Good Lord! So many things are happening here! Yes, of course, there is the particular case Vic and Jacob are working on (and what a joy is having them working together again!) and having them teaming up with Carolyn and Zig? That was brilliant! And yes, I may have screamed in joy a little when I saw they were having a big part in this book. I adore Carolyn and have a deep fondness for Zig, so yes, I loved to see them again.

But there is also Jacky's storyline which was so irreversibly sad, and yet, with such a hopeful ending. And I love the way in which it comes together with the haunting at Vic's old place!

And then, there is Kamal, and the memories from Camp Hell, and the fingernail demons...

And here, right here, is the reason why I love this series so much: everything, even some apparently random words from a previous book, makes sense. Everything is connected.

And that ending! OMG! I don't know how I'll wait until the next book! Because of that ending... and because I really want to know what it is which has made Darla unreachable.

I hope the audiobook will make the wait less painful :P

As always, I loved every word of this book ♥

WHAT WAS THAT ENDING, OH GOD.

Anyway, as you can probably tell by the five stars, I absolutely ADORED this 11th book (I can't believe I'm nearly caught up with this series *sniffles*).

It was utterly riveting: chilling and mysterious, a lot more paranormally-charged than the previous book, with a ton of creepy, creepy ghosts and the usual pyschic shenanigans Victor gets up to (up to and including, the ectoplasma hands, the weird worm-like demons and the usual persistent ghosts trying to possess every single medium in their vicinity). It's also a bit more introspective than the previous books and a touch angst-y in some ways: Victor has to contend with a lot of tough stuff in this book, and finally (finally), his pill addiction gets the development it deserves. It was tough seeing him struggle so much, but it also cemented the fact that he's truly, 100%, grown and matured, and I was beyond proud of him. He's still the messy, disaster, emotionally-stunted and snarky medium we all love and adore, but he's much more in tune with himself and his powers too.

I also adored his and Jacob's relationship in this one: neither one of them are perfect to begin with, and with a mortal drug epidemic (and Victor's past) taking its toll on them, they end up snapping at each other quite a bit in this one. I was actually glad to see this grittier side of their relationship though: it made them feel even more real and normal, and it made their sweeter, more intimate moments even more lovely and romantic. It was also so lovely to see Jacob's more insecure, frustrated side. But how I laughed at Victor's running commentary on him, LOL. These two absolutely kill me!
I LOVED seeing Carolyn and Zig again, and I also loved getting to see a bit more of Crash and Red through Victor's eyes (and his smartass, low-key envious thoughts).

The mystery plot was so damn compelling, and exciting and weird and creepy and shocking. It might be my favourite one yet.
The ending was a mix of bittersweet, highly romantic and OH-MY-GOD-WHAT. I can't wait to continue.
