Definitely more towards horror than my usual read. Not stellar, but good enough I've been binge reading these as I get them in from the library.
I definitely wouldn't buy these as they are seriously problematic in some respects, but they are good reads while holding a sleeping sick toddler who refuses to be left alone.

I felt much the same way about this book as I did about Everything Leads to You by Nina Lacour: that so much of the action had little to do with the main character and happens behind the scenes.
In this book, Fae are known to humans, and other supernatural creatures are considering going public as well. And most of the book has to do with warewolves. Because Mercy, whose first person POV we follow, is a shapeshifter and not a Fae or werewolf, I felt like much of the plot wasn't high stakes enough because it had so little to do with her.
But I give this book points for having a really awesome badass protagonist and a diverse cast of multicultural characters.

"Moon Called" by Patricia Briggs is a stunning introduction to the Mercy Thompson series, and this is my second time diving into its captivating world. From the very first page, I was drawn back into the life of Mercy, a mechanic and skin walke who navigates a world filled with werewolves, vampires, and other supernatural beings.
Briggs masterfully blends action, intrigue, and rich character development. Mercy is a relatable and fierce protagonist, and her journey is both empowering and thrilling. The dynamics between the characters, especially her relationship with Adam and the pack, add depth to the plot and keep you invested.
The world-building is exceptional; Briggs creates a vivid, immersive setting that feels both familiar and fantastical. The lore surrounding the supernatural elements is well-crafted, making it easy to lose yourself in the story.
Revisiting "Moon Called" reminded me of why I fell in love with this series in the first place. It’s a perfect blend of adventure, humor, and heart. Whether you’re a newcomer or a returning fan, this book is a must-read. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

I am a little tired of werewolves. And vampires. And witches, oh my! So I was not very enthusiastic when I picked up this book on a friend's recommendation. I ended up devouring the entire series in a week because I was so hooked. Mercy is strong (but not too strong) and smart (but not too smart) with supernatural powers (but not too super). She feels like a real person, despite all the extras, and that is why I enjoyed this book a lot more than some of the other urban fantasy/paranormal romance that is floating around. Give it (and the rest of the series) a try.--Rebekka
More people need to give this series a chance it’s so good! I’ve been reading in the mercyverse since the 8th grade and the books just keep getting better!

I've been down and out with the flu for several weeks, and haven't been able to focus on anything so a re-read of this was just right. It has been long enough that I remembered almost nothing until it actually happened.
Aspen Creek is so near where I went to junior high and high school, that if it were a real place our teams would have played each other, and that is always weird for such a specific area.
