I enjoyed the story, despite being fairly predictable and on the nose. Things work out a bit too conveniently, in a way that you know all the main characters will be fine, and there’s rainbows and sunshine at the end.

I mean come on, she leaves just DAYS before the curse runs out of time, if only she had said those three little words to him at ANY point since she already knew she loved him. She wouldn’t have made it past the second trial without Rhys secret help. She happens to figure out the riddle the second before being killed, then she’s magically brought back to life by a special never seen before golden goo that all the High Lords have! Where have you been loca style, she’s all pretty and shiny like a new vampire now.

Also, Feyre is an idiot. Makes it really hard to love her character when she continuously makes the worst decisions over and over.

Really enjoyed the book. The first half was definitely a slow start but it did pick up in the second half, which I felt was needed. I liked the strong female protagonist but felt that her relationship with Tamlin moved really quickly and was kind of surface level, considering how much she loathed him at the start.

I really enjoyed the world building aspects, though, and I’m excited to read the rest of the series.

Okay listen I was very anti reading this book, I was a “I’m not like other girls” girl about this one and I’m here to admit I was wrong. This made my brain go brrr in the best kind of way, no thoughts just a very fun time. The action was exciting, the character building was more or less solid (though I did have a hard time with Feyre being both incredibly smart and also simply the most obtuse, pick one girl), and it kind of just felt like the reading equivalent of eating a lot of yummy candy. Admittedly, the writing wasn’t spectacular, there are some fairly bonkers plot holes and plot points, and it often felt like reading a fairy-tale mashup fanfic (please! I know this is just beauty and the beast I beg you for a shred of subtlety!). But I get it! I really do! Already on board to read the rest of the series, ya got me.

Loved it! Slow to start but then stayed up to 3am to finish this because I couldn't put it down. I adore Lucien and thought he and Fayre might have become a couple at first. I do have a soft spot for a Beauty and the Beast story and this was great. Can't wait to start reading the next book!

Look it may not be the most well written and there are some grey lines that are towed in this book, but it definitely is addicting and I definitely will be reading the next books.  If you’re looking for an easy fantasy read that is slightly dark, it does the job.  It’s cliche, but if you’re just here for the vibes, do it.

If this were a fanfiction, I would have spared it.
Instead, it is a dully published book, with the writing of a middle grader, and insufferable main character.
I liked the idea, though.
