I love the characters in this book although I think I preferred The Rosary Girls for storyline. In this novel, a killer re-creates famous death scenes from Psycho, Fatal Attraction and Scarface. Quite a bit of action, with a few "shock" moments.

Richard Montanari has done it again! The Skin Gods had me thinking it was a new culprit at each new chapter. Montanari has a way of writing that captivates it's read from the first chapter. I cannot wait to see what the rest of this series has in store!

A video tape shows up with a murder spliced into it, the movie being Psycho and the murder being a reenactment of the famous murder. This starts a killer with other film murders to recreate.
The idea is good but is a bit of an average read, and the book was written in 2006, don't think many places would have been hiring out VHS cassettes, but too much thought takes away from a fast paced read best read as a popcorn thriller.

I have read a number of Richard Montanari books, but as always, not in the right order. The Skin Gods is the second in the Balzano and Byrne series, and kicks off with a murder being spliced into a video tape of Psycho. Already this setup dates the book as nowadays this crime would be uploaded to YouTube and viral within minutes.
I enjoy both leads, especially when Balzano goes undercover, but for me, this novel was a bit too convoluted, a bit stretched out, with too many names to remember. It was hard to keep track of which body belonged to which victim and how they were related/knew each other.
It also really surprised me that the author was so disgusted by the fact that porn stars exist. He damned them outright. While I'm not saying that it's my cup of tea, I'm a firm believer in each to their own. People can do whatever they like in the bedroom.
Overall, a good premise, but the story line and plot didn't live up to it. I'll probably read more of Montanari's work but it would be nice, if for once it wasn't a serial killer terrorising the streets of Philadelphia. If it happened this often, nobody would live there.

I thought this book was just a ho hum 3-3.5 read and then the last 75 pages happened and it blew me out of the water and moved itself to a 5 star read. Highly recommend!

Good second book
Found this one a little slower to read than the first in this series but it was still a well written story and developed the two main characters nicely
