I enjoyed this book and felt I resonated with a lot of it but was put off by her consistent use of BIPOC as an example for pointing out systems of oppression considering she doesn’t belong to that group, it felt disjointed and like an afterthought (also what about other minorities?). Having said that, I feel better about my breakup after reading this book.

One of the best, if not THE best self-help book I have ever read - combines theory, practise and personal experience in a perfect balance. Lots of scientific knowledge as well as personal wisdom, and unlike some, the body of the book isn't plagued with studies and references, but plenty of resources are there at the back if you want them. In my opinion a great read for anyone, no matter what you are looking for, there is always something to learn, and this one felt flexible and relaxed, so you can take whatever resonates from it, I highly recommend it.

Just not for me (right now). Also didn't vibe with the narrator.

A really good look at trauma and how our childhood can truly affect us. Some really helpful advice, stories and journaling prompts. I listened as an audio book, I feel I would enjoy it more as book where I could refer back easily.

This book has completely changed my life. It was recommended to me by my therapist and I absolutely loved it. Dr LePera makes the science behind the mind engaging and personal; most importantly, she has a way of validating your personal experience with trauma in an informative and considerate way. I think I have recommended this book to every single person I have conversed with in the last 2 months. I will definitely be reading it again soon.
