CW: child abuse (emotional & physical), eating disorders, addiction, alcoholism, outdated/derogatory terms (h*rm*phr*dite, r*t*rd, wh*re, etc), body shaming, ableism, mentions of infidelity

this is such a hard read but Jennette does an outstanding job telling her story. she is an outstanding writer, and I hope she does more in the future as I would very much like to pick up more work from her. she's been through so much in so many ways but the book ends with steps towards recovery & hope & I wish nothing but the absolute best for her in whatever she does going forward.

highly recommended if you can handle the subject matter and/or enjoy memoirs.

It's very rare that I read a book while it's still surrounded by hype but I quite enjoyed knowing what everyone was talking about for once. I thought this was really good. I didn't know anything about Jennette McCurdy because I never watched Nickelodeon but I really felt like I understood her by the end of this, especially because I listened to the audiobook which she narrates herself. She explores such difficult topics with unflinching honesty and it's certainly uncomfortable reading at times but it's so well done.

I liked this way more than most celebrity memoirs...McCurdy has a great writing style and the way she structured the book made it really easy to binge. I read it in two days which is unusual for me lately. The short chapters centered around small moments that made up her life, and the choice to write from her point of view in that moment rather than a more reflective tone made it really impactful. I feel so sorry for all that she endured. This is a good book and I recommend it but only if you're prepared to feel sad and check the trigger warnings.

Whew! This. Book. Was. POWERFUL! I grew up watching Jennette as Sam from iCarly. I had no idea the amount of abuse and toxicity she was suffering behind the curtain whether it was her ED, her abuse from her mother or "The Creator (Dan Schneider). I am glad she is at a point in her life where she can finally write it all out. What an amazing book! I hope she starts writing more.

I have succumbed to the hype! I’m too old to know this actress, but I love learning about other people’s lives.

Hers is a doozy. I truly wouldn’t wish what she’s gone through on anyone. She comes across as smart and hilarious.

This book made me rethink reading memoirs by younger people. I used to say, just write it when you’re older and you can really reflect.

But she’s been through a lifetime of shit in a short time and processed it accordingly with a therapist. I wish her all the best and think it’s a book everyone should read, provided they take heed of trigger warnings. Because, as with many hard upbringings, she has a lot.
