I really liked the speeches! They felt like a confirmation that I should continue to stay true to my principles and for example not eat meat. However it's incredibly frustrating to know that that's not enough and that we need some systemic changes through laws. And it's even more frustrating to read these speeches from 2018-2020 and to know that barely anything has changed since then.

Other reviews said the speeches are repetitive - yes they are, and yes I started to skim-read them after a while. But I wouldn't fault the book for that because that's bound to happen with a collection of speeches by the same person on the same topic when the important recipients don't listen.

“We already have all the facts and solutions. All we have to do is to wake up and change.”

Everyone should be aware of the climate crisis. Thank you Greta for speaking up for us young generations.

Didn't realise I was listening to the abridged version until it was too late 😩

Not sure what to make of it. Recognise that GT is somewhat of a polarised figure and any criticism tends to land people immediately in the pile with all the Climate Change denying weirdos.

I can't say I felt particular emboldened to up my efforts to reduce my personal carbon footprint. Presented as an audiobook the speeches come across as stark and lacking, it's giving "video essayist youtuber circa 2017", when compared to footage of the very same speeches. It's a bit like watching footage of a movie but without the soundtrack, if that makes sense.

The speeches do repeat themselves a little but I also don't know what to make of that. On one hand, using the same phrases makes for a uniform message from speech to speech, on another reusing phrases is very economical (can imagine having to juggle being a teenager and international spokesperson), but on the other hand it highlighted GT's immaturity/inexperience as a speech writer.

I've felt more spurred into action by books actually about Climate Change, such as "Under a White Sky". GT comes across as a little immature in her treatment of CC as a yes/no problem, even when making allowances for her Asperger's.

I greatly admire Greta Thunberg and everything she is trying to do to make the world a livable place for future generations. The essays are a little redundant, but I guess that's what happens when you're trying to tell politicians to do something about the climate crisis and NO ONE IS LISTENING.

It is a book of her speeches and they were all extremely similar.
