A King So Cold

She wrote the word "behoove" too many times. I hate it.

This book confused me more than a physics theory. I do not understand what the characters are. Fae? Vampires? Hybrids? What?

I went and set my heart for Raiden as duh, the title says so. I thought the book would be about her and the Raiden fixing their fucked up relationship.

But noooo! Of course there has to be some sort of mating as fae is involved. I'm disappointed.

I WAS ROOTING FOR RAIDEN AS HE HAS MORE CHEMISTRY WITH HER THAN ZAD. Although, Zad deserved a better ending. So does Raiden.

The fighting... skipped so many pages that I do not get it. There was so much info missing.

Audra is an MC you will love! Such a cold-hearted queen that also knows and sees the rights and wrongs.

This book can be compared to a physics class. You'll get it at some points but not all. You'll finish the class with a passing grade but not with satisfaction if physics isn't your thing. ☠

DID NOT FINISH: 58%

I don't rlly like Zad, and if this whole duology is going to be about him unfortunately as much as I love Audra I have to be done

Rating- 4
Heat- 4 several very hot scenes
Tropes- anti-heroine, royalty learns to rule justly, pining love

Ella Fields has written the mother of all love triangles. Queen Audra was betrayed by the new husband that she loved. After his banishment, she found comfort and companionship in a lord. Now her husband has returned, and neither man is inclined to give her up. For most of the book, I genuinely didn’t know which man Audra would choose. I didn’t even know which man I wanted her to choose. While love triangles can be tiresome, this one is written beautifully.

Audra is not your typical fantasy heroine. She is clearly written as an anti-hero that grows some throughout the story. Even with her cold personality, it is easy to sympathize with her since she was clearly molded by her childhood. Less easy to sympathize with are her occasionally stupid decisions. Those mistakes just make her more real, though.

It took awhile but once it found it’s groove I really liked this book.

This is my first time reading a fantasy story. And wow this author really can write in any genre. I devired this Mammoth of a book in a day. Highly recommend this story

A strong female lead, a realistic dilemma however poorly executed. The main character seems to be a whiny, emotionally immature privileged person which provides a poor example of influence in a female that is in a role of power.

I could not stop reading it! And, I think the sequel is even better.

My review is a bit mixed.
There are some things I really didn't like and things I really liked in this story.

First of all of you are sensitive to the Hero or heroine being with others after meeting their intended then you will have issues with this book.

It starts with a scene of the Queen, in an intimate scene with her lover.

She is married but as the blurb reveals her husband betrayed her in some way and she has exiled him, wiping his memory.

Flashback scenes.

The King during his courtship played games with the heroine involving other women and that continues at times in the story.

There is another main male lead, as there is a sort of love triangle, but he doesn't sleep around, though his circumstances are not easy either.

The book is fantasy, it contains magic and mythical creatures. Although I personally get bored with too much description I feel the author needed more world building.

There are plenty of characters and potential for more books in the series.

I was a bit confused at times.

Creatures are mentioned but not really explained what they are.
There was the term half blood mentioned but no explanation as to what the mix was exactly.
Mid chapter, we changed scenes so the character was with someone else but that wasn't explained or led in to on occasion.

The plot ended up being quite good, lots of angst, if you don't mind a bit of bed hopping.
There were some intimate scenes other than who the heroine ends up with.
Technically cheating as although he is exiled the heroine is still married.

The heroine is quite dislikeable at times but I liked that, there were reasons why she was so cold and I felt it worked.

Possible triggers, gang rape. No details but after effects on a secondary character.
There is a party which is basically an orgy but small detail.

Multiple POV though primarily from the heroines POV.

HEA in the sense that not all the issues with enemies are resolved but they find happiness in their situation.
I expect some issues will continue in the next books but I expect the main couple in this book will continue their happiness as side characters of another couples story.

I would read more of the series about other couples.
