Listen, the devils minion chapter is an all timer, but even apart from that, this book just works for me in a way that the previous two installments did not. This was really fun, and I especially liked the character development, specifically for Akasha.
That being said, I did have to knock off a bit for the frankly wack racial politics of this, that get more confusing the more you think about them. That's not really my lane to enter, but it is a prevailing theme in the vampire chronicles thus far, and having long flashbacks in Africa/the Levant really exacerbates that.

Anne Rice's writing is absorbing, as always, and the narrator of the audiobook is wonderful, too. This book lingered a little too much on characters talking in circles and repeating past points for this to be a 5-star book. When you actually think about what happens, very little actually does. We instead get POVs of old and new characters who were enjoyable but did not move the plot along. Also, I read/heard that Akosha is the original TERF, and now I sort of get it (lol). Overall, I enjoyed it, but it could have been cut down a bit to streamline the story. I think this is a great place to stop reading the story.

I love the mythos and Anne Rice working out this philosophy exploring what it means to be human, how we can have worth and goodness in us even as we create monstrosities. Lestat is a real stinker though.
Edit: the more I’ve sat on it, the more I really enjoyed this one. I loved the theme of facing the pointless cruelty of humanity as a whole with intimate, personal connection while recognizing the risk of being so vulnerable with another person. The movie sucked though, holy shit. Not enough Akasha!!
