I'd give more stars if I could.

Don't get me wrong i enjoyed reading this book....but....there was "things" that bothered me.

I got annoyed when Britney was like she "loves" Alex. I mean it was really fast and I think that there wasn't a lot of "character develops" it was going too too fastj

OK, I will admit, I was clapping my hands and grinning like an idiot by the time I got to the last page of this book. Even though this genre of books not what I usually tend to read, I totally loved it. I just can't wait to read the rest of the series.

This was one of those books that you pick up once in the middle of a supermarket and next thing you know you've bought the book and finished it in less than a day. The second I read about the fiery love story between Alexander and Britney I was hooked. This book was such a lovely comparison to west side story and yet it took on a complete life of its own, spawning two sequels (and possibly a fourth?) that will have you craving for for Fuentes action.

My experience while reading this book was nothing short of exceptional and I couldn’t help but adore all the characters. I’ve watched the youtube music video so often i can quote the rap by heart.

I enjoyed this book from cover to acknowledgments and would gladly recommend this to anyone willing to read a good teen romance. As usual I keep a checklist of FIVE things I will judge a book on so here are the results!

Base Plot: I thought the basic plot was a predictable bad boy meets good girl type of story and yet it took on an entire life of its own. Sometimes a good old fashion classic love story is the best way to go!

Character Design: The character design was out of this world! Alexander had such a sad back story and Britney wasn’t the perfect little princess she had appeared to be in the beginning. Both of these protagonists grew up in unimaginable ways and left adoring imprints on my heart. Every single character was unique and made you fall in love with them in seconds, including Paco, Luis, and Carlos.

Villain/Antagonist: The antagonist was not what I expected, although I can identify all three types of antagonist, social, single person, and inner struggles. What had me reeling the most was how the Antagonist towards the end really came to life while Alex and Brittney fought their way into each other's arms

Plot Twist: I did not see this plot twist coming. It was fast and unexpected and had me crying for days, withering in agony on my couch while wrapped in my snuggie. However, I do feel as though it might have been lacking in volume and there was a lot more Simone Elkeles could have done to create a better impact.

Supporting Cast: What can I say about the supporting cast. FABULOUS! Paco, Britney's sister, Carlos, Luis...every one of them I loved and every single character had their own personality and back story. It was a clever ‘chemical reaction’ of personalities and I enjoyed reading about every person.

Overall I give this book an 8/10 mostly because the book was borderline too predictable and had to many common plot issues that I've seen in other books time and again. HOWEVER This book was still an original piece and I recommend this to any people who adore any book with cheesy hot teenage angst accompanied by a hot love story.

this is the best romance novel I have ever read. holy crap. I was flying through the pages and I couldn't put it down. can't wait to read the rest...

Lots of hype and requests for this book. Didn't make a huge impression on me--it's kind of "Sweet Valley High--With Gangs!"--but it's a feel-good candylike easy read so I understand the popularity. For readalikes, look for more Romeo/Juliet modern stories.

I remember reading this a few years ago and I sort of liked it, but as I've grown and read more books, now after re-reading this I've realised how stereotypical and cliche this book is.

The storyline is one that is so over used now and it wasn't even used in an original way. Both families were awful. Brittany had some strong moments were you could see her potential to be different but then she went back to being the naive little girl she was a the start. Alex just played a character that's over written. The bad boy player that doesn't really want to be bad and actually he's really smart and wants more out of life. And in the end - of course Brittany gives Alex another chance without a proper apology because she loves him so much and that's all that really matters in the end.
I don't really know what kind of message this book was trying to achieve. That gangs are terrifying. Parents are selfish and awful. Love is all you need in the end?
You can have a bad boy and the 'it' girl get together but you don't have to play up the stereotypes. It's a shame this book over did everything and wasn't as original and creative as it could have been.

A three and half
It was okay but Britney was a little too fake even when she wasn't trying to be and Alex was a bit of an idiot sometimes
Their story was sweet though and it was unputdownable

Lots and lots of questionable content here. Everything from profanity to sexuality. Since when do teenagers need to read that stuff?

That said, this story offers a happier version of the classic Westside Story.

Perfect chemistry is perfect contemporary fiction. My not-so-perfect review adoring this perfect book coming soon :D
Without hesitation 5/5 :)
