My first e-book!!

Except for the goofy epilogue and the rash ending, i liked it very much. I was attached to my Kindle for iPhone during the last two days, because I wanted to read more about Alex and Brittany. Ok, Alex is a mix between Patrick Verona and Danny Zuko, but he's so fantastic, so charming... And Brittany as well. They are stereotypes, ok, but they were created with a complex personality to match each other and make this book so enjoyable.

Love Simone Elkeles' style - I'm already looking for more of her books.

Cute starting, Awful ending

Compulsively readable. However, his felt a little white savior-y at times. That combined with the grammatical errors and spacing issues, I cannot give this more than a three.

This was my favorite series since I was a teenager. An immense amount of apprehension towards a gang member and “snowflake” girl falling in love.

MAY 2016 BOOK CLUB:
I enjoyed the insight the book gave me about complexities in growing up in certain places in the US and being of a certain ethnic origin. The problem they faced at school, the split between the poorer minority groups and the wealthy white people, is far too real. I was happy to see that there was an ability to cross those boundaries, although I don't know how realistic that is in real life.

The chemistry (yes, I just said that) between Brittany and Alex was the best part of the story. I had the first edition, so there were a couple oddly worded things and typos here and there, and definitely some really cheesy parts, but it didn't matter as much because I really felt like I cared for the characters. That was Elkeles' strong point, the actual writing could have been improved for sure, but I loved those characters :)

Towards the end of the book, I thought that things went by quickly and the author kept skipping ahead. One minute he was in the hospital telling Brittany to go away, then he was in Mexico, then he was back, then they were both at college. I think they could have made amends much sooner and less drawn out, that seems more realistic to me.

Wanted to read this book since I was 13 years old and it finally happened and I was not disappointed!

Diversity, diversity, diversity. For those of you looking for more diverse reads, this one is definitely something to look at. Obviously, Alex Fuentes is a Mexican-American, which we don't see often in YA. But also, mental illness like OCD and anxiety are touched on this book. Lastly, Brittany's sister has cerebral palsy which I think is a lovely addition to this book. The two sisters' relationship was heartwarming and tear jerking.

The story itself was flawless. The author dove deep into each of the character's issues and flaws and presented them in the most relatable way. Brittany's intense desire to keep her home life a secret was very interesting to read about. Alex's involvement with the gang was so different from anything I've read. I got minor murder mystery vibes toward the end of the book which was an interesting turn.

Highly, highly recommend. Will be picking up the rest of the series soon.

2.5 stars. So I was trying to remember why I didn't like this book as much as everyone else did, but it's been a while since I read it, sooooo... I looked at some other reviews, and NOW I remember! Yeah, it's the cliches and stereotypes that did it. (Oh, and the epilogue was just, incredibly LAME!) but there are definitely things I did like about [b:Perfect Chemistry|4268157|Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry, #1)|Simone Elkeles|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1316637352s/4268157.jpg|4315675]. The first is that the bad boy is definitely bad! And the fact that he is in a gang made me realize that anything I know about gangs has been learned from TV or movies - I've never actually read a book about a gang or gang member! Shocking!!! So, I get a point for trying something new! I also liked how Brittany has a disabled sister - that is something you don't often see in YA novels, and it added a lot to the story - helped to show Brittany's softer side, gave her a conflict re. where to go to college, etc. Both these aspects of the characters kept the book from being a total loss, at least in my opinion, but other than that, the rest was very much what you would expect from a typical YA read. Still, if you're looking for something quick and easy, it might be worth a try.

This was probably one of the most checked-out books at my high school's library. I bought the trilogy a couple years ago, to see if there was anything to them.

The answer is far from yes, closer to no.
