Ok, enkel maar gebruikt voor boeken die ik ooit wel eens zou willen lezen. Lang niet alle boeken die daarin staan lijken mij interessant dusja :p.

any book like this is of course subjective--but when i coworker had it come in on hold i knew i had to buy it. It really should be called 1001 NOVELS you should read before you die as it seems to exclude non-fiction which is a particular pet-peeve of mine but it is an excellent list--and annoyingly increases my own list--also includes many books i have never heard of (and i thought i was such a well-read librarian :)--i also love the illustrations

I agree with some of the others that while this is a fun book to flip through it should be by no means be taken seriously as the definitive list of what you should read and I doubt this is what the editor had in mind. Actually if you read the introduction to the book he talks about this. He says, "It is a list that is anmiated by the spirit of the novel, by a love for what the novel is and does, but which nevertheless does not hope or aim to capture it, to sum it up, or put it to bed." You can look at each of these books on the list as a snapshot of an example of 'the novel'.
I have no intention or desire to read all of these books, but there are some I've added to my to-read shelf. And of course we all have our opinions about books that have been left out. The Good Earth? not there. Anyway, check it out from the library and have fun with it.

I found this book to be amazing.

There are a lot of books that didn't interest me, but I have tagged the ones in the book that I do want to read.

Filled with a lot of information and lovely pictures. I think this is great for book lovers.

It's like the bible for us book worms

I gave this to my mother as a Christmas present and we enjoyed it so much she got me my own copy. Although neither of us has any intention of reading all these books before we die, or in another life completely, it's a great list, even if you take issue with some of the selections and/or omissions. It's not a bible, just an well-read person's long list.
I put a number of the books in here on my to-read list: some were great ([b:The Birds|903205|The Birds (Peter Owen Modern Classics)|Tarjei Vesaas|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1179322065s/903205.jpg|887838]) and some were clunkers ("The Diary of a Country Priest," "The Reluctant Fundamentalist"); most are still to-read.
My biggest complaint would be it's ill-advised to put books on a list like this that were written in the last decade, since many won't stand the proverbial test of time. But here they are.
Very attractive book, too, nicely put together. The pictures are terrific and in general "list people" will love it.
If I practiced "bathroom books," this would be among them.
