I never expected a Danielle Steel book to make my list, but a friend recommended it, so I decided to give it a shot. It was pretty much what I expected...sort of. From what I've read this isn't typical of Steel's work (there's a bit of romance, but it doesn't drive the story like I expected it to). I found the writing kind of sloppy, the repetition got old pretty fast, and the story was predictable, but hey, sometimes a little fast food is comforting in its way.
Another lovely modern fairy tale by Danielle Steel. I had read this before,But I remember really enjoying this one, read this in one sitting lol
First sentence: The trip by jeep from the small village near Luena to Malanje in Angola, in southwest Africa, followed by a train ride to Luanda, the capital, had taken seven hours.

It is always fun to get lost in a Danielle Steel novel and 'Blue' was no different. Blue is the story of a grieving widow Ginny, who has been working as a humanitarian aid worker around the world for the past four years to escape from the pain of losing her husband and child. Ginny contemplates ending her life, when she notices a young homeless boy, Blue, and she decides to buy him a meal, leading both of them on a path to a brighter future together. At times the story is unrealistic, as many of her stories are, but Danielle Steel has the ability to write warm and engaging characters. The book deals with sobering issues of homelessness, sexual abuse and dealing with an aging parent, but it manages to retain a hopeful tone.

Danielle Steel war bislang eine der Autorinnen, die ich gemieden habe. Mir ihr verbinde ich - ohne fundierte Grundlage - romantische Schnulzen, Herzschmerz, heile Welt.
Umso überraschter war ich, dass sie sich in "Blue" mit sehr ernsthaften Themen auseinandersetzt, ohne dabei zu tief in die "Tränenkiste" zu greifen. Ja, die Charaktere sind überzeichnet, die Handlungsstränge sehr einfach und stringent aufgebaut und alle Hindernisse lösen sich am Ende in Wohlgefallen auf. Dennoch bezieht sie in ihrer Geschichte klar Stellung zu Vorfällen, die in ihrem eigenen Land sehr kontrovers behandelt werden. Schon allein dafür verdient sie Achtung und Respekt, selbst wenn man ihre Art des Erzählens ansonsten nicht mag.
"Blue" ist ein Buch, das man zur Hand nehmen kann, wenn man eine Heldin benötigt, jemanden, der alles zum Guten wendet, auch wenn die Aussichten noch so schlecht erscheinen.
Ich habe meine Meinung über Steel zurechtgerückt. Es mag sein, dass ihre Bücher zur "leichten Kost" gehören, aber sie ist keine oberflächliche Autorin, die nur rosarote Welten beschreibt. Sie kann etwas, sie hat eine Meinung und sie verpackt sie so, dass ihre Leserschaft damit umgehen kann.

I’m a little torn and confused on this. The story itself is fine. The writing however is absolutely horrible. It reads more like a research paper and so many details left out and big changes happening too nonchalantly from one sentence to another. It’s just so matter of fact and emotionless. From one sentence to another it could be a huge timeframe but no details. There was no flow from one thing to another, it just was. I was pretty shocked by that. This was my first Danielle Steel book and won’t be reading another if this is how she writes. There’s no structure or dialogue. Just thoughts, like a bullet point journal.

This is a very fast read and a good summer book. It is very predictable but in a positive manner. Nice story.
