This wasn't bad--it wasn't awesome--everything was just fine.

Wanted to like this one, since I really like the previous book but I was so bored.

While I was reading it I would end up reading a decent chunk fairly quickly but when I had to put it down I felt no desire to pick it back up and finish it.

The hero, Devyn, was fine. The heroine, Alix, was fine. The plot, was...eh. The romance was really non-existent. The only thing I was really interested in, and even they didn't keep me completely invested, were the secondary characters.

It was never explained why Alix looked so much like Clotilde.

The short "make Alix pretty" scene/moments annoyed me.

The "romance" was basically, Alix is attracted to Devyn, Devyn was attracted to Alix, at least partly because she reminded him of Clotilde. They are in his? room at some point and they end up in bed quickly. No build up, nothing. And then they occasionally have sex throughout the book but there was no romance part. So the couple left me cold.

Also Alix's past was really only an issue when it suited the story. Oh we need the crew or Devyn to feel something here and jump start them into action, bring up Alix's horrible childhood. However having sex with Devyn never bothered her, she didn't have any issues, when in the past she was raped and assaulted by many of her father's crew. Even if Devyn's the most wonderful and sweet man in the world she's still going to have, at least some, reservations to being physical with him.

I will continue on, hopefully the other books in the series are better.

I enjoyed this one, but I felt the story was a bit rushed overall.

Once again, I'm reminded why I prefer the full books over the novellas. It's a bit disconcerting to read 2nd Gen characters now that Kenyon's back to writing 1st Gen stories.

I have to say though, that Devyn definitely is a perfect combination of Syn and Shahara. While I loved Vik in Born of Fire, he's even better in this book!!

I also liked Alix more from the start than Kiara & Shahara. Even though she's in a tough position, she realizes from the get-go it's probably not smart ... and has a LOT of guilt.

Nyk's kids are all kinds of badass ... I'm actually really looking forward to their books when they come out. Sway is very intriguing also. Considering his parents ... I'd definitely like to know more about him. Omari is pretty awesome too.

Overall, a great story with lots of action. It was great to see all the original Sentella come together. Not quite as badass as they are in the Gen 1 books, but pretty amazing to see they're all pretty awesome after having their own families and such.

I have to say, the ending made my heart happy.

I don't normally leave reviews but man I have FEELINGS about this book.

I got this book in a romance mystery bundle, and of all the books in that bundle this was the one I was most hopeful for. A classic steamy sci-fi romance? Yes please! I so wanted to love this book.

But alas. The writing is very ungraceful and mildly misogynistic, and the dialogue is clunky and cringey, not to mention the number of times I read the words "cock" and "licking" in 300 pages was highly upsetting. It's like the worst kind of 'take-a-shot-when'. The first 100 pages alternates between actual writing and the main characters thinking about how much they want to have sex with each other-- I kid you not literally every other paragraph. I understand this book was written in the early 90's so I'll give it some grace for being part of the old school mass-market steamy romance class, as nearly all of these books had a spark of sexism and awful sex lingo. The writing though, you can do better. I liked the general plot, but there were a LOT of plot holes and a lot of moments when someone said so-and-so did x when 30 pages before it was actually the other so-and-so who did x. There were also too many convenient plot twists at the end, and I really dislike the end of this book because if they could do that all along to rescue somebody the whole plot is completely invalidated. It feels like the author was rushing the end of the book. I wish there had been more thought to how it wrapped up and there was less convenient endings and more consequences.

However, there are things I loved about this book. The world building was phenomenal, I was easily immersed in the environment within only a few pages. The characters were likeable and quirky, some definitely in an over the top exaggerated way, and the author put a lot of depth into the individuals she focused on. If you ignore the number of unnecessary inserts of the word "cock", the steamy scenes were all the right kinds of steamy.

I'll also leave this here for anyone else who is wondering: Yes, you can read this as a stand-alone. You won't be completely lost, the plot of this story exists solely in this book. However you may get a little lost in the frequent name-dropping. From what I understand there are a lot of books in this world and the author definitely wants you to know it.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this, but not like I enjoyed the first two. I can’t say I ‘really liked it’ but I was close so that’s why I’ve rated it a 3.5.

I didn’t really like the amount of times she was down on herself. It made sense the first few times but then it kept happening and everyone’s actions weren’t changing her mind about herself at all, even to the point she still thinks it on the last page before the epilogue and I just wished there was more growth in her love for herself. I think it might have happened if this was as long as the last two, but it’s a good 200 pages shorter so while there’s a word already built by now I think it just needed a little bit more time for development. Or spent a little less time with all the sex scenes and more getting to know each other and working through their shit.

Also, the Paden thing, I still don’t know how I feel about that.

It was interesting to see the next generation of characters that stemmed from the characters in previous League novels. I didn't find myself as engrossed in Devyn and Alix's story, but I enjoyed the cast of characters and their obvious affection and loyalty to one another as demonstrated in the latter portion of the novel.

a bit surprised they skipped ahead to the 2nd generation. a bit more sex and a bit less action in this one. but still a good read and lots of motivation to read the league 3.5.

Loved it

Absolutely loved this book and the characters. So much plot and romance with action. Easily one of the best authors I have read ever. On to the next one.

Sci-fi mood sci-fi mood *dances*

But… it still wasn’t what I wanted. Dammit it’s difficult to find a good sci-fi romance full of action, adventure, drama and emotional moments and less on thoughts about how hot the dude you’re drooling is. Yes Alix, that’s you.
“You want me to reset the machine?”
No. I want to ride you until you’re begging me for mercy. Clearing her throat, she tried to shove that image out of her mind.
“That would be great. Thanks.”
And strip off the rest of your clothes while you’re doing that.

Anyways, I still loved the crew and I want to be a part of it and live on the ship and be a cool copilot and go to dangerous missions and have an exciting life while visiting different planets. Ugh I so hate my life right now...

I liked Devyn and his whole multiple personality disorder. That’s what his attitude meant to me. He’s a good guy in a second and then the next he turns psycho and kills ten guys with only a fork. Yep, he’s that good. Now I may be sick but two faced people fascinate me. They offer variety so you don’t get bored easily. Plus, as all of SK’s characters, he’s a hot motha so of course all the ladies are drooling over him. But that’s not important. He’s just too perfect perky and shiny. I mean yeah he had a normal life, he’s a mamma’s boy (wtf?? So not cool!) and got raised in a very good environment. I’m surprised he didn’t end up a pansy after all this pampering. Cruel but the cool heroes have childhood issues. And psychopaths also but let’s not ruin the fun.

Alix is... strange? At first I thought she’s sweet and felt bad for her childhood issues but she didn’t make a good heroine. I didn’t feel a connection to her nor Devyn, while I’m at it. They lacked chemistry and their “feelings” (love especially) didn’t seem genuine. But that doesn’t mean that they weren’t fun together. Nothing too fancy.

Aaaaaaaand Nero ♥ he’s my boy-toy in this series!

Well *sighs* I wanted more action and a better story. I have to admit that this is the typical thing you find these days in romance novels. Guy meets girl, love/lust whatever at first sight, girl has to screw guy over to save family from death, guy finds out but forgives her, guy and girl join forces to battle the boogeyman. Is it just me or does this book resemble the majority of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s stories? Or maybe just The League series? I have nooo idea but it’s still a fun book to read.
