Looking for a Cowboy by Donna Grant is the fifth in the Heart of Texas series. The book description does say that the main character's sister was murdered for her unborn child, but what it does not mention is that the entire rest of the book is non-stop talking about kidnapping, murder, the actual cutting of the babies from their mother's wombs, and illegal adoptions. I really enjoy the characters of this series, they are all good people, but the storyline of this book was just a bit much. That said, I will take a look at the next book in the series because I did enjoy books three and four. Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for my copy of this book, all opinions stated are 100% my own.

Looking for a Cowboy was a fast-paced and extremely readable story. That hooked me in from the start, with a storyline that wasn't quite what I expected, but enthralling nonetheless. Even though it does cover some sensitive subjects, including kidnapping, adoption and murder. But honestly, the characters, the mystery and the romance really made this story worth reading, and I genuinely loved how Cooper and his friends all banded together to help Marlee in her quest.

Would recommend.

I received this book as an ARC thanks to the publisher & Netgalley. This review is my own.

Description from the book:
"P.I. Marlee Frampton always wanted to lead a nice quiet life, working as a cop in her local police department. But that dream came to an end when her sister was murdered—and her baby kidnapped. Now Marlee’s come to Texas to investigate the Harpers, who may be linked to shady adoption agencies. Cooper can’t believe that his friends could be involved in anything so sinister...and soon he makes it his mission to help Marlee discover the truth—and keep her safe in his arms."

First of all - I strongly recommend reading this entire series. It is really good and the background stories of the other characters are referenced from time to time, so having that "base knowledge" is useful.

This book starts with a reference to a horrific crime and does include multiple other descriptions along those lines as Marlee is tracking those responsible for her sister's murder. Marlee meets Cooper while she is investigating his friends and sparks fly immediately.

This is a nice easy and interesting read - with enough drama and suspense that you won't want to put it down!

I received this book for free through netgalley for an honest review. I haven't read any books in this series before but it didn't take away from the story. I loved both Cooper and Marlee and I thought they were perfect for each other. The crime of killing pregnant women and stealing their babies was a little intense to read about, but it still was good. I loved that there was mystery, romance, and friendship included in this book.

While this is the fifth book in this series I think it worked well as a standalone book as well. Back in the heart of Texas, Cooper is feeling restless. He isn't sure what direction he wants his life to go in. He enjoys what he does, and being able to help his friends when needed has been nice, but it doesn't drive him. When Marlee, an outsider enters town, it sparks an interest. However when he finds out she is investigating one of his friends he doesn't take it lightly.

Marlee is investigating a series of murders that killed women along the state, and took their babies. She is determined to stop this crime spree, especially since it has special ties to her family. Marlee is passionate, has true grit, and determined to see it through, even when at a detriment to herself. Finally having some help from Cooper and his friends is nice, but can it last.

I loved the chemistry of Cooper and Marlee, and how willing Cooper is to help his family and those in need. While this is a heavier topic subject wise, it still moved along at a quick pace, and kept my attention. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

This wasn’t for me.

I love Donna Grant and her paranormal/supernatural romances but this contemporary/romantic suspense piece, which is the first I have read from this author, wasn’t doing much for me.

That spark that typically pulls me to her novels was missing, the characters were dull, the murdering mothers and kidnapping infants subplot wasn’t intriguing enough, and overall I was bored. Really really bored.

‘A Cowboy Like You’ was an unexpected and unfortunate drop, and just to be safe, I think I'll stick with her PRs for right now.

In ‘Looking For A Cowboy’ we meet Cooper Owens. Cooper has lived in Clearview all his life. He loves everything about his life, his friends and his town. But he still hasn’t really found something that he wants to make his career of. And above all he has never met a woman that he wants to spend forever with. But when a beautiful stranger walks into Clearview, he knows his life will never be the same.

Private Investigator Marlee Frampton has traveled to Clearview following a lead. Marlee’s life has revolved around finding missing baby’s who have been brutally cut from their mother’s bodies for years. Although Marlee really would love to have a break, she can’t rest until she finds the answer to her latest case. But meeting Cooper changes everything. For the first time in almost ten years, Marlee would like to spend time with someone. And for the first time since her sister was murdered, she feels save.

‘Looking For A Cowboy’ was definitely a nice read. From the moment I started reading I was intrigued by Marlee’s story, and I really wanted to know how this case would end. The case itself was horrible though. Pregnant woman who’s baby’s are being cut from their bodies, before they are killed. Since I’m 22 weeks pregnant at the moment, this felt even more horrible than it would feel normally I think. And I was determined to find out how this case would be solved. It definitely kept me sitting on the edge of my seat.

The romance between Cooper and Marlee was sweet. And I really enjoyed reading their story. But the romance was also pretty damn fast, and I would have liked to have a little more build up. For two people who had been alone for a long time, they pretty much instantly started a relationship. I just found that a little strange.

But overall ‘Looking For A Cowboy’ was another fun read by Donna Grant. I loved the little town of Clearview, and enjoyed reading about the different friendships. And I really look forward to reading more books in this series.

Looking for a Cowboy
is a new stand alone western romance in the Heart of Texas series. A series that believes in soul mates and supporting your family no matter what.

Marlee has spent the last ten years of her life as a PI hunting down abducted infants, most of the time it isn't a happy ending and it's taking its toll on her, but she can't imagine doing anything else with her life. Her latest case brings her to Clearview Texas where she seems to hit a dead end but finds Cooper Owen. Cooper is looking for something meaning full to do with his life, he's a vet who's bored with his day to day. When he sets sights on Marlee he immediately feels a connection. He will stop at nothing to help Marlee stop the monsters harming pregnant women and abducting babies, and will do whatever it takes to keep Marlee in his future.

Like the rest of the Heart of Texas series this has a strong leading characters and a great sturdy cast of secondary characters surrounding them. Marlee is brave and selfless. She is such an unbelievable strong character, I don't know if I would have the willpower to handle such an important and emotional job as she does. Cooper was such a southern gentleman. The complete package, handsome, polite, cooks, loves his momma, and able to protect the woman he loves. The romance between them was very much insta love (I'm talking a few days lol) but this is a series that heavily believes in soulmates and love at first sight, so I expected it. The hot and steamy intimate scenes bad up for the slightly cheesy love at first sight aspect.

Looking for a Cowboy
has a story line that is interesting and fast-paced which kept me turning pages and not wanting to put it down. It also made me fall in love with Cooper's best friend Jace and I can't wait for his book!

This one was a little hard to read because of the whole stealing babies and killing the mothers but I thought it was a really good book. As was Donna Grant's other Heart of Texas books, I thought it was well written. I did love that they ended up staying in Texas. I was going to be very very VERY sad If Cooper moved away to be with Marlee. I was really happy with the way it ended. I rather enjoyed both characters. I would recommend this series. I can't wait for Jaces book and I hope there will be one on Ryan and maybe even Cash in the future.

Do not be deceived by the cover. There is some crime involved.
The book itself was well written, and engrossing. Crime, romance and cowboys, what more does it need to keep the reader hooked!
Nonetheless, a well and riveting read.
