This book was well done, but I rated it three stars because I rate books on how much I like them personally and though I liked all of her advice, it didn't really pertain to me as I don't want to be a writer. So why did I read it? Because I love Ann Patchett and I am trying to read all of her books.

I love books from authors that explain their writing process. Ann Patchett has a little book of gold here for writers who want to know more about putting words to paper. No doubt I will be returning to this again. It's packed solid with tips and tricks. I loved her suggestion of how to start writing with writer's block and will leave it up to you to learn it!

What a wonderful, talented woman!

“Had I given equal weight to everyone who had something to say, every story would have turned into a terrible game of Twister...”― Ann Patchett, The Getaway Car: A Practical Memoir About Writing and Life

This short memoir (about an hour of reading time) is packed with insightful anecdotes and practical tips about the writing life. I have lost my tendency toward writing as an adult, but this inspired me to revisit my childhood passion.

Rating 5 stars!

Ann Patchett is wise. With humor, she shares writing truths from her vast experience as a novelist and storyteller. She honors the people and programs who made an impact on her. This isn't the first time I have read this and it won’t be the last.

This was an impulse Nook buy - I saw Patchett's name, saw that it only cost a few bucks, and mistakenly thought it was a full-length book. You can read it in a couple of hours. I liked it - I always enjoy glimpses inside writers' heads and their observations about the writing process, what works for them, etc. I especially liked the way she describes a book idea as a beautiful butterfly floating above her head, and trying to write it down is like dismantling and killing it.

Delightful book about Ann Patchett's writing education and process. A short read and I highly suggest this book if you write or enjoy the author's books. This will be a reread for me.

I'm not an aspiring writer, but Patchett's advice and outlook on life and work is down to earth and applicable beyond writing. Without the benefit of being a writer myself, I suspect this is a must read for anyone that is!

Ann Patchett isn't my favorite winter, but she is a celebrated one, and in this Kindle "short," she explains how she got there and dishes out some of her best writing advice.

A good, quick read on writing. Not necessarily the ideal starting point if you're only getting into the subject. Nor is it the the ultimate guide to writing. But it offers a few points that aren't to be found elsewhere and, in a genre that is quite congested, that's quite a feat.
