This is a beautiful story. The characters are well written.I loved the relationship between Henry and Elle and wanted more. The idea of the second chance program was important and I am glad with its representation.I liked Drix and his family so much. I enjoyed myself alot during this reading.Last Note, I loveeeed Thor.

I actually read the physical copy of this book. I mean, the book cover is purple. I love purple. It was just gorgeous. And for once, the story behind the gorgeous cover was actually mostly good.

I needed a contemporary book after all of the fantasy books I had been reading lately, and this book was what I needed for a break. I liked most of the book. I didn’t like how controlling Elle’s parents were, but I guess that probably comes with having a dad in politics. Everything is all about that perfect image in politics.

And the scene with the dog….I’m not listing the spoiler here, but those that read the book probably will know what I’m talking about. I get why it was done, but did it have to happen like that?

I liked this book even though it seemed to have some instant love going on but it’s a good book to read during the summer or on some type of vacation or break.

It’s a four star read.

This book is so beautifully written. The characters go through some things. And I feel like they realize so much more about themselves and what they want.
Drix what can I say about him?, I really like this character because when he could have easily gave up he did not. And after everything he went through. I was really unsure at first who planted everything to blame him for a crime he didn't commit. Although he always was thinking about it, I'm glad he gave Elle a chance. And Elle I'm very glad she stuck with everything. I wish it would have been different for both of them to be able to come out and say hey we love each other.
This book is another that everyone should pick up. Teaches you to honestly really not judge someone by their status or looks.

Say You’ll Remember Me

*received an arc in exchange for an honest review**

4.5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Two people from two different worlds are thrown together and will find out that maybe they aren’t so different after all. And that together they can help each other by being there for one another no matter the differences. Katie McGarry continues to take her readers into two different worlds and show them that while on the outside it might look great, but in reality it could be a bad situation. And she shows how those two people can came together and bridge their differences and make each other stronger.

Drix has been gone for a year for a crime he didn’t commit. The program he was in was a pilot program that the governor had started to give people a second chance. Now he is the face of the program and will be in the spotlight more than ever. When he goes for his first appearance a chance encounter will change his life again.

Elle just wants to be normal, but being the governor’s daughter makes that hard. And after being saved by a guy on the midway she wonders if she will ever see him again, but duty calls and she needs to meet her parents so they can introduce the face of her father’s new program. When it turns out to be Drix she finds her whole world about to change.

Drix and Elle know they need to stay away from each other, not only are they from two different worlds but it could jeopardize everything her father has worked for. But they can’t ignore what is happening between them and see that together they are better than apart.

But as time goes by things being to come forward that change everything. And when the truth about Drix not committing the crime come to light it will not only change their lives but influence her father’s career. Will they stay true to each other and fight for what is right? Or will the pressure from Elle’s family be too much to overcome?

I enjoyed this book and found it hard to put down. I took off two stars for the unnecessary animal death (that honestly if I knew about from the beginning would have stopped me from picking up the book in the first place).

honestly. i thought i was going to hate it. but i enjoyed it a lot more than i thought i would so thumbs up

wouldn’t have been more than 3 stars but thor didn’t have to die so yes i’m petty i don’t care

WTF

Seriously, WHAT. THE. FUCK.

Now bear in mind, I am alone in this assessment. Right now, this book is sitting at 4 stars and I do not understand it.

So I guess, there’s a good chance this may work for you…
Who knows.

And more power to you if you do. Its much more fun to love a book than to finish and wonder what the fuck you're doing with your life.

Alright let’s get to it…

What I liked:

Literally. Nothing.

What I disliked:

The Plot: Really… What plot. I mean, honestly. Its a slow, dragged out descent into nothingness.

The Characters: I literally hated every person in this book.

Elle is a blue-eyed, blond hair gorgeous 17 year old who has no personality outside of this and has apparently never had chicken wings or been kissed.

And she writes code… Kinda. And likes dogs. And she wears glasses. She’s so dorky and relatable.

Drix is your average ~bad boy~ who dresses like its 1994 with his combat boots and has a chain wallet. So you know he’s bad. And he has some MAJOR anger issues.. Which the book portray as romantic, but I was not a fan.

Elle’s parents are pretty much just the parents from the Notebook. We didn’t get to the mom’s backstory about the time she too fell in love with a guy from the wrong side of the tracks… But I’m sure if this wasn’t already almost 500 pages long, we would have gotten there.

parents

And I honestly can’t even remember the rest of the characters and I JUST finished this book. That’s how well developed and meaningful these characters are.

"This isn’t a Lifetime movie, this is real life."
I mean, if you say so, but this feels like every cheesy Lifetime movie I’ve ever seen. But not as enjoyable. Not a single character resembles a person I've ever met in real life... But I've seen characterized in many, many Lifetime movies.

Other issues:
Rampant sexism. Like - holy shit. I'm honestly surprised a lot of this was allowed to go to print. I don't know when this was set, but its a pre-Me Too/pro-chain wallet time. And its not a time I want to go back to.

SpoilerAND THEY KILLED THE FUCKING DOG.. Like why? It adds nothing to the story, its just a cheap ploy to pull at heart strings.

Many thanks Netgalley for the ARC, this review is my honest opinion.

A short review. On the whole, I feel like this book was far too long to read for the plot that it held inside. Drix and Elle have their own pros and cons, though as characters, I feel Drix had the stronger story to tell, as the guy who went through juvie for someone else, because he thought it was family who did it. I love that he values family alot, it really gives his character a lot of conviction, I like also that his time away changes his character, though sometimes I wished we actually got flashbacks of when he was bad, or some more detailed memories of what shaped him. But, I think on the whole Drix wasn't so bad to read. I did think, however, that some of his convictions weren't that strong, or that sometimes he was thinking something, but it was the contradicted moments later. Elle on the hand was mostly a bit boring to read about, and her conflicts less strong. More like we understood more about her when we saw her from another perspective but never quite from her own perspective.

I love Drix's family, extended and those permanently adopted into the family, by this I mean his best friend in life, and from his second chance camp. The family vibe was awesome and it feels good too.

I think the title is nice, it's what caught my attention in the first place on Netgalley, BUT, I feel like it sounds sadder than the book really is. I feel like it adds expectations where there weren't any. But, it does give a feel to the story, that I feel really shouts 'DRIX'.

I do need to add a warning though, a dog does die in the book, whether it was intentional or because he was being heroic, that dog was awesome. I loved him. So sad to see what happen to him happen.

I do also need to point out, I was really put off by the repetition of things like 'beautiful mouth', 'beautiful eyes', and 'beautiful body'. I mean I know they're beautiful, and I got that the first 100 times, but I would have liked some more variation...and I think this book might actually beat out Maas and her Throne of Glass which had the same repetitive issue.

But on the whole, I do love the love in this. I do feel that Drix and Elle really do love each other throughout the book, and for that I do recommend it. Even if it is for a long, but light and predictable lazy day read!
