This was a nice fun read.
Nothing earth shattering but well-written with interesting characters and just enough drama to make me keep reading. I felt like the plot barely existed in the first half of the novel and it was a bit of a slog to keep going when I didn’t know what I was supposed to want to happen, but it drew together a bit better in the second half.
Only major criticism was the Brexit jokes - I know everyone cared about Article 50 (or at least pretended to understand what it was) but it just seemed really forced in the context.
I absolutely loved Charlotte’s competency and confidence at work - a lot of mid-20s/early-30s characters hate their jobs in novels - and I adored how Xander described everyone’s view of her.
The main romance took a while to even start and there could have been just a smidge more interaction early on. Overall they were cute, even if I wasn't very emotionally invested.
Would recommend, might reread in the future sometime and I seriously hope Tansy gets a book!

I was pretty disappointed by this. It felt really slow and at 30% I was so bored that I decided to give up.

This one was so mediocre... The idea was okay but I just never laughed or felt anything for any of the characters... it was just... there. The romance felt so forced and you know who the good guy is and who you are supposed to root for right away and you know who the bad hateable guy is right away too. There are some good and different things like the guy she is first with being a cheater and still being with his wife when she is with him - and him lying that he is broken up with her when in reality he is not -he tries gaslighting her into breaking up his marriage at the end - but that goes pretty much nowhere and I hate how abrupt the ending is - it feels like a lot of things were just brushed and not properly completed. It wasn't a bad book but it wasn't memorable either .. It's just there I guess - and I've read far better romances this year.

This was an okay read, but the ending for some of the key minor characters was sour, which left me with a bad feeling. I was so sorry for Tansy - though I worked out what she was actually doing about 5 pages after she'd arrived in the story, LOL! It's also a book for younger people, I think, and people who work in very high-power jobs - which did have a ring of the 1980s London culture but it's not set then.
I did love the relationship with Xander, who is just fab, and I enjoyed the twist with the podcast lady - but she needed a happier ending too!

Honestly this book didn’t quite do it for me. It’s well-written, funny and snappy, but the plot is fairly nonexistent. For folks looking for a single through-line in their romance books, this one may not be for you. Things certainly happen, there’s drama and intrigue and a bit of mystery and, yes, romance, but it’s more like “six months in the life of a woman making a vague, half-assed attempt to change her life for the better”. No huge revelations here, no big romantic gestures, and don’t get attached to the love interests presented throughout. Good, just not what I was looking for right now.
My simple summary: I enjoyed it! There were parts that made my giggle, parts that made me sad & parts that made my heart warm.
As the blurb says, “Charlotte isn’t just stuck in a rut- she’s buried in it up to her chin.” She’s blatantly belittled at her corporate job, single, watching her best friend plan a wedding & lose herself in the process- & as a result, struggling to connect with her best friend. She’s just all feeling defeated. However, Charlotte finds some fun inspiration in a podcast titlled (you guessed it) Sorry Not Sorry, which is a woman encouraging women to own themselves, build confidence & put themselves out there through a series of challenges, like asking for a stranger’s number & buying lacy lingerie.
For soOoOome reason, it reminded me of The Devil Wears Prada?? (Which is a movie I absolutely love, by the way, definitely a good connection in my opinion). I’m going to guess that’s because of the whole heroine-transforms-into-a-total-confident-knockout-but-maybe-also-loses-some-of-the-goodness-in-her-in-the-process thing?
