There is nothing essentially wrong with this book, and in places it was definitely entertaining. Over all, though, there was a feeling that something was lacking. Amy, the main female character feels a little as if she’s been put together according to a tick-list of desired traits for a positive female role model. A large portion of the early sections from her perspective were unneeded. Elder, the main male character is more interesting, and the plot concerning his backstory - and the mystery surrounding it - is what actually kept me reading.

This book's wonderful, intriguing premise is what drew me to it at first. I'm always impressed by feats of imagination, and this book was no exception. The world envisioned here is complex and thoroughly fleshed out; I really enjoyed my introduction to it. The mystery aspect was very interesting and, although I had a close guess, the truth was more complex and interesting than that. Where it falls short is with the characters, who were rather flat, and the dialogue, which frequently sounded stilted and awkward. I know there are sequels, but I'm not rushing to read them.

This book was so much better than I expected. Fast paced, plot twists... I loved it! Now I just need to find the 2nd part...

It was okay, but I figured out the ending right away. Not awesome.

I was drawn in by the cover and the back blurb, and was blown away! I'm not a huge sci fi fan but I LOVED this book. The characters were well written and the world aboard the Godspeed, as well as its differences to Earth, were fascinating. Beth Revis did a fantastic job of pulling the mystery through the story. She gave us enough clues to get ideas, but threw some twists in there that were really shocking (and awesome!). I kept thinking about the ship in Wall-E, which made it easier to visualize things; there were some truly disturbing ideas and themes, but they gave the book many layers. It was all written so well. I liked the alternating chapters too, it was cool to get to see the events from Amy and Elder's POVs. She really knows how to end a chapter, and a book too. Talk about cliffhangers! I want to run out and get the sequel right now. Loved it.

Yeah, couldn't get past the main male character ogling the main female character's (who is a MINOR by the way) body and breasts without her consent or knowledge while she is naked, unconscious, and completely vulnerable in front of him.

And the fact that this boy is supposed to be the love interest of said girl? That left a really, really bitter taste in my mouth.

As a fellow woman, I'm shocked Beth Revis would include something like this in the book, especially when it is completely unnecessary to the plot or the story as a whole. In this day in age where we as women are finally being able to stand up against sexual harassment and assault without being shut down, this feels very much like a giant step back. We should not be including things like this in YA novels targeted to teens.

Teen boys should not think that this kind of behavior is in any way acceptable to do. Teen girls should not think that this behavior is acceptable from a potential significant other when it happens without their knowledge or consent. No, no, no!

I am so incredibly disappointed in you, Beth Revis. You have an entire generation of young teens able to access your book. Is that really what you want to teach them? What you want them to think is okay?

Do better. There is no room for crap like this.

I was a little wary of this book when I got the galley...but I actually ended up liking it a lot! The entire story takes place on a ship tha is traveling (you guessed it) Across the Universe! But there are a lot of twists and turns that I didn't see coming and it makes you think about how much you believe just because its what you're told.

It was a great book. I'm the kind of reader that likes to figure out what is going to happen at the end of the book before I get there. This book was unpredictable and kept me on my toes. I'm interested in finishing the series. The only gripe I have is that it was a little difficult to find a common ground with any of the characters and was unable to be come emotionally immersed. Overall, very good read. I would recommend to anyone.

Such interesting twists and turns- some guessed and some that were a total surprise. The main girl was a little whiny but not enough that I couldn't handle it. It also had many points of discussion about what our future as humans and societies can become that I wish I read it with someone else so that we could discuss. It ventured to many difficult subjects such as leadership, mental illness, ethics, violence and more.

Although the book had some slow parts, it was a good story. I'll give the 2nd book a chance.
