This is definitely the middle of a trilogy...the story is not over at the end of the book, so I'm ready for the next one.

While I loved Brendan Fraser's reading of "Dragon Rider," I needed some time to adjust to his reading after Lynn Redgrave's reading of "Inkheart". While I find his use of different accents to indicate different characters adorable, some of them didn't seem to fit, but again that could be due to associating those characters with the voices by Ms. Redgrave. So if listening to both, allow some time between your listen.

I noticed some characters are growing up, and it's not working quite as well for me as Tamora Pierce's work, or J.K. Rowling's. The books are enjoyable, nice listen for a walk.

An interesting and satisfying sequel to Inkheart... On to Inkdeath!

After more than 300 pages I finally abandoned this book. Surprised me too! I enjoyed Inkheart and loved how this book started out. But it kept getting darker and more strained as the plot started to unravel under its own weight. I skipped to the end, figured I wouldn't enjoy how we got there and let it go. How this can be an "intermediate" book for 9-11 year olds is beyond me. If I didn't have a bookshelf full that I'm waiting to get to, I might have kept going. But it was obvious that I would have to read Inkdeath (Book 3) as this one ended abruptly. Reminded me of Pullman's Dark Materials series which kept getting worse by the page.

I loved Inkheart and was very excited to read the sequel! The imagery of this book is wonderful and I love that we get a more in depth look at the ink world.

With that being said, this book does feel like it can drag on. We spend a lot of time in anticipation, of big fight scenes and other climatic moments. But I personally wish there would’ve been more time spent in the heat of action. I also wish that there was more focus on some of the older female characters and giving them more opportunities to lead, instead of focusing on unqualified men. But in the end it is the unqualified men with dumb ideas that continue to produce drama to write about. I like how in book that the story also reflects the author’s feelings and flaws. Thinking everything will be alright because he wants it to be and not fully considering the people he writes about. He’s got a little bit of superiority complex, which makes me dislike him but it makes sense since his imagination did create an entire universe. Overall it’s good and I would recommend to people that really loved Inkheart.

this book sure is over 600 pages and that sure is interesting of it

Maravilloso, en todos los sentidos. Inspira cuantos sentimientos se puede uno imaginar y desgarra con palabras cada atisbo de esperanza para luego repararla de golpe

I had a rough time getting through the beginning of this one. There are an awful lot of new characters and references to old characters and I was having a hard time keeping track of them and the story was lagging. I had to return the book to the library mid-way through, and I almost didn't check it out again, but there's something about this premise that draws me in, and I'm curious to see where Funke goes with it. I will be reading the third book, but with low-ish expectations.
