This reads like the worst fanfic has to offer: no strong character development, no world building, no compelling plot. The FMC is weirdly subservient to the douchebag MMC despite him being nasty to her 99% of the time. Even for enemies to lovers, their relationship is flimsy. The sex was fine.

This book is proof that 250 page romantasies do not work. This was trope after trope after trope with zero originality and because of the length of the book, nothing was able to be flushed out enough to properly make sense. The plot was boring and the characters were one dimensional. The edition I have was annotated by the author which honesty made it worse. One of the annotations mentioned something happening “before Dacre really knew Nyra” but the mentioned scene happened like, 2 chapters ago?? And nothing that happened between the scenes made their relationship stronger or added any depth to the characters. I actually hated everything about this but giving it 2 stars because I think I would’ve actually enjoyed it if it was flushed out. The tropes that were used are some of my favorites, but unfortunately the lack of depth made this a really tough read and I doubt I’ll be reading the rest of the series. Nothing was shocking or original so I don’t need to finish it to know what happens, I already know without having to read it.

Omg!!! I do not know how anyone could hate this book. My only complaint is that it is too short! It’s the perfect read. The characters were everything and more. The fantasy was enough to feel immersed, but it didn’t drag on. I CANNOT wait for the next one, please hurry July!
