Second time reading it. Had to prepare for the sequel. Cute, romantic, easy.

How juvenile can the plot get? Jo is a matchmaker who tries to help Matthew find a lady to marry for the sake of an heir. She thinks she can steer him to a friend she cherished, Lilly, but then falls for him (wow, who saw that coming? Not me.

I don't know if it's just a classic for me but the matchmaker unintentionally matching themselves is such a good one. This being a slow burn fits the story really well. You can't help but root for the characters.

While reading this book, I could not help but get Bridgerton vibes. Particularly Season two with Anthony and Kate only the Duke of Crestmont aka Matthew and Jo were the couple. Their will they or won’t they intimate moments had me feeling all sorts of heart pounding feelings.

There was this one scene where Matthew had informed Jo that he was ready to marry one of the prospects from her list and Jo tells Matthew that he can’t because he does not love the other woman. Oh, the many make out scenes between these two was delightful. Jo really helped make a change in Matthew to believe that he can and should marry for love.

I couldn’t put it down! I absolutely loved the back & forth between Jo & Matthew. You could tell from the start that she would keep him on her toes. The dichotomy of impossibility, having a matchmaker fall for a client she was trying to match, provided an endless supply of angst and anguish. The heart broke a little each time one or the other denied themself. They were so clearly perfect for each other. The side characters are equally as lovable. The women of Jo’s house, supporting each other through all the bumps of life despite levels of status. There were moments that brought a shine to my eyes, made me cheer or made me want to reach into the book and smack them. And then there were the utterly heartbreaking/heartwarming moments the made me weep. A truly delightful story you really must read.
